Nicholas Negroponte and One Laptop Per Child

A few years back, MIT professor Nicholas Negroponte came up with an idea to produce $100 laptops and give them to the kids in the Third World. In order to do so, he took a leave of absence from MIT, created a non-profit organization and set about finding the engineering talent and money to build the laptop.  He achieved an engineering success, but found out the hard way that the business world is not as friendly as the world of academia. Today the laptop exists, and can be purchased in the United States until December 31st, 2007. To read more of the story, and  to find  the link where you can buy the laptop, go to www.wealthencyclopedia.com/one_laptop_per_child.html
