Pop-Up Books
Movable books for all ages
Are pop-up books on your gift list?
Pop-up books, movable books - paper engineering with movable parts
Creating a pop-up book falls under the realm of paper engineering. Although the true pop-up book is one that is 3-dimensional or moves, today many people apply "pop-up" status to books with pull-tabs, pull-outs, pull-downs, and more. Greeting cards have a long history of having pop-up features.
What is paper engineering?
Paper engineering does not have anything to do with making paper. It's all about the manipulation of paper by a variety of methods and techniques that include folding and moving. If you're still not sure, think about origami. Both manipulate paper by folding to create something new.

Who reads pop-up books and moveable books?
Unusual books for children, books that move, pop-up books for adults
Nope. The first pop-up books were made for adults and I bet you think pop-up books are a fairly new type of book. No again. Evidence of a movable book goes all the way back to 1306 when a poet used a revolving disk to show his audience his theories. Now that's a far cry from the pop-up books today, but it when the idea began to flourish. Over time anatomical books showed up with folding flaps, landscaping books demonstrated before and after views, but mostly the paper engineering was confined to the realm of what we'd consider text books today. Eventually the techniques were used in children's books in the 18th centurey.
Modern day pop-up books are prized
Today's pop-up books trace their roots to popular books in Germany and Britain in the 19th century. In 1929 books with pages that had "pictures that spring up in model form" captured attention. Pop-up books are all grown up now and some are embraced as literary work because of the craft and their artistic expression. Artists such as Andy Warhol embraced the medium. Now pop-up booksare sought by collectors and found in museum and art exhibitions. Their readers are young and old alike.
The following pop-up books are available on Amazon during the Black Friday deals on books at up to 50% and more off.
