Making a Case for Distance Learning Colleges

Affordable, Self Paced, Career-Focused Distance learning is becoming more popular every day. All you have to do is watch the TV news and see the lines of people at the unemployment offices across the country to understand why. People who have been out of work for months or even years are deciding that they need to go back to school in order to make themselves more attractive to employers. Since most of these adults have homes and lives they can't just pick up and leave to attend college on-campus, and since many of them live too far from college campuses to commute, they are turning to distance learning for the education they have realized that they need.

It's never too late to get your degree...

I know a lady who graduated from college when she was 75. When anyone asked her why she'd gone back to school when she wasn't planning to work, she'd tell them that she'd always wanted a college education, and she'd finally fulfilled her lifelong dream. Therefore, if she can do it at her age, you can certainly do it at yours.

What is it that you've always wanted to be?

It's easy to take a job just because it's available and then find yourself having so many responsibilities that you have to just keep working in the same job because you can't take the chance of trying to find work elsewhere. Especially during times of recession with layoffs looming over your head, you want the security of the seniority you've earned. It's more comfortable to just stay in your rut even though you aren't really satisfied with your career or your paycheck.
