It's that fun time of year again, and it's sure that some of you men are looking for cool costumes for various parties and events or just to delight the neighborhood kids with.

I think great place to start looking is among the characters of a popular movie or series of movies (as well as a great series of books).

Harry Potter is very popular, among both kids and adults. Come on guys, you know it's true. A lot of you grew up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione ~ but you're grown ups now, right? Big deal!

There are plenty of adult characters to suit any type of man.

Like the rough tough rule breaking type of wizard? Where better to start than with Sirius Black, rule breaker, danger seeker, fearless and faithful friend.

A dark haired, straggly looking man, gaunt from years spent in Azkaban. Some tattered clothes and a shredded robe would certainly show the downtrodden and ravaged soul of Sirius Black.

How about Mad Eye moody? Hard core auror, known for his glass eye that gives him his colorful name, and be sure to remember your very own flask. Add a black cloak for protection from the elements, and you will find yourself to be a very convincing Mad Eye.

Remus Lupin would make a great choice, also. With a bit of make up, you could make yourself look haggard, like a man in constant inner struggle.

Some tattered clothes and a ratty robe would complete the look nicely. Maybe even some odd looking fingernails for kicks.

Or go for the glory and disguise yourself as the purest evil being alive, Lord Voldemort. Cold white skin, slits for nostrils, dark eyes, and long sharp fingernails will totally compliment the dark robes and sinister presence of Lord Voldemort.

Get a fake snake you can wrap around your shoulders, and I'm sure most everyone you come across will recognize the darkest of wizards.

Maybe you think of yourself as the motherly type. Well, then Molly Weasley would be the perfect witch to be. Caring and loving, yet tough enough to handle a large family of rough and rugged individuals. Especially, remember to keep your wand out at all times to catch those troublesome twins at whatever mischief they may be up to.

Are you a teacher? Professor McGonagall's would be your robes of choice. You can wear the classic black robe or cape, along with the tall pointed witches hat, and make sure to remember little bun, round spectacles, and a severe expression.

Maybe you would like to be little more eccentric. Then the obvious choice would without a doubt be Professor Trelawney. You'll need wild, disheveled hair, odd jewelry, glasses that make your eyes look like they are bulging right out of your skull, and maybe a sherry bottle tucked in your pocket. Remember to bring your crystal ball and tell all your friends their dark and gloomy futures ~ if they'll let you!

On the more sinister side, one immediately thinks of the most darkly beautiful and wickedly elusive Bellatrix Lestrange. This would be an awesome adult costume for the right kind of women.

Kind of a mix of mystery and madness, with her dark hair, shadowy eyes, red lips, and that streak of evil like no one has seen before. You may find you even frighten yourself a little.

Another evil minded witch it might be fun to transform yourself into this year would be Delores Jane Umbridge. Hunch over to become this squat little toad of a woman, with tight short curly hair, and a perpetually sour expression.

Be sure to wear a cute cardigan, maybe adorned with some fuzzy kittens. And don't forget to carry the decree that tells the world you're the new head mistress of Hogwarts.

Whether you decide to take the kids out for an hour of trick-or-treating and then come back for the party, or just forget about the neighborhood wanderings this year, it is an absolute must that you have a fiendishly good time by playing Halloween games.

This holiday is usually considered a kid's day, but I like to think of Halloween as a time to become a kid again, and Halloween games - even if they are really designed to please the kiddies - can really be Halloween games for both kids and adults.

Here are some great ideas for Halloween games to make everyone giggle and have a good time:

Pass the Pumpkin - This game is great fun and all you need are three pumpkins and some people.

Just group up the players into groups of pretty even ability levels, or make it kids against the adults or boys against the girls if you like. Each group starts with a pumpkin and the first player passes it to another in the group.

Then that person passes it on to someone else, and so on. The winning team is the team that does not drop the pumpkin.

Ohhh ...... did I forget to mention, you should put some Crisco on the pumpkins first?

Howling good fun! This is an outside game of course!

Mummy Maniacs - This game is way cool and all you need is some white crepe paper or rolls of toilet paper. First, divide up the kids (or adults) into teams of two players each.

One takes the paper and makes the other one into the mummy, being sure to wrap the legs together, not separately.

Then, the non-mummies run around in a roped-off area, and it is the job of the mummies to "capture" an enemy partner.

The first one to hug the enemy is the winner.

Witches Broom Dancing - This is a variation on follow-the-leader, and all you need is a broom. Put all players in a circle.

The first person takes the witch's broom and dances around the circle with it. Then, she hands it to whatever player she chooses, and that person must imitate her dance exactly.

If she doesn't she sits down and another person takes a turn. The last player standing wins.

Spider Sack Relay Race - This game makes players into spiders and requires just a little forethought and before-the-party preparation.

All you need are three old pairs of panty hose and some old rags to stuff inside them. Put the rags in the legs of the pantyhose.

Then, divide the players into three teams. The first player ties the pantyhose around his waist so that the legs dangle on his sides.

He bends over and crawls on his hands and feet (or hands and knees, whichever) and goes to the finish line, where a teammate waits for him. Then, the teammate takes off the dangly pantyhose spider legs, and puts them on herself and crawls back to the beginning.

Play continues until all players have crawled. First team to get everyone across a finish line wins.

It's easy to become a kid again on Halloween night and make it a special night with your friends and the kids.

All you to do is put your thinking cap on and introduce everyone to one of the above games or another Halloween game you come up with.

Trying to figure out what would be a great costume for Halloween?

Why not go with one of your favorite movies for costumes. A blast from the past would be great for an adult.

Here's a classic: Ghostbusters, with Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Sirgourney Weaver.

There are a lot of costumes you could create from this movie. You could choose to be one of the three main male characters, find yourself a full body khaki suit, hook a couple cylinders , or better yet a canister vacuum to your back and go around trying to suck up all your freaky friends!

(Or at least their candy, which you can stow away for you to eat later.)

Or how about you ladies out there? Who wouldn't love to be dressed in a sexy, flowing outfit with your bright red hair, big and everywhere, like Sigourney Weaver once she has been possessed. Very seductive and alluring.

Imagine the look on your significant other's face when you walk out dressed all in silky, body-hugging red and looking ready for night of wild fun. It's enough to send anyone out to find that Rick Moranis costume, "the key-master" that makes him the perfect match for "the gate-keeper"!

And single ladies, this costume, especially with that wild make up, would be a definite head turner the moment you walked thought any door to any room.

Or maybe you are the fun loving, quirky, sarcastic, odd-dresser, Janine, played by Annie Potts. Dig out some of the most strikingly bright colored clothes, huge earrings, and plenty of makeup. And don't forget those huge '80's glasses to finish off the total ensemble.

Or you are the geeky type, Louis, that Janine finds so irresistible? You could really pull off a cool costume with tousled hair, sloppily dressed in lose dress pants, disheveled dress shirt and, again, let's not forget those glasses.

But perhaps you should really for go the Ghostbusters online Halloween costume extraordinaire and turn yourself into a Staypuft Marshmallow Man (or girl, for you ladies).

That big white fluffy soft being entering room will definitely have people's heads turning, and you might even find you've hit on the sweetest costume of the evening.

For a little fun, carry and throw some marshmallows at people; they come in at least 3 different sizes these days.
Or you could even be one of the guys after Staypuft had exploded, with marshmallow all over you.

It would be sticky but I'm sure it will be costume many would remember for years to come.
