Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points....

Your local library website

We've just discovered a really great resource for online homework help - our local library. This won't work for everyone, of course, but try looking at your local library's website. Ours has "Homework Rescue", which is online tutoring. It's free, but you have to enter your library card number.

It's a really excellent setup. It's powered by brainfuse, a national company, and the tutors are certified, with a minimum four-year college degree, and all screened and approved by that company.

On our library's website there's a sample (demo) tutoring session that you can view, so you can see how it works. If you're looking for help online, I really urge you to look into this and see if your library offers this service. It's free and especially great for things that you yourself can't help your child with.

From the Brainfuse website:

"Brainfuse provides... online homework help to libraries nationwide through its HelpNow service -- a unique blend of one-to-one homework help, state-aligned skills building, test preparation, and writing assistance."

More from your local library

There are lots of homework help sites that require a paid subscription. Many local libraries have these subscriptions so their patrons can use the sites. Again, check your local library's website. In our case, you click on "Teen Links," then "Do Your Homework." There are dozens of websites listed - some for every subject you can think of. If the website requires a paid subscription, the library has paid it for you.

Our tax dollars at work! Take advantage of the resources available to you from your local library!
