Ah, scams, one of the most demonic activities unscrupulous people partake in to deceive the innocent. The online laptop repair world isn't free of this type of horrendous activity unfortunately.

What "scammers" typically do in business is pretend they are providing a service or product, with the goal being to take the customer's money and give them something of lesser quality than advertised or outright deny that customer of what they are offering.

To some extent, some individuals are providing laptop repair services as a means to deceive as well.

-Who Exactly Is Affected?-

Illegitimate online laptop repair affects those of us who would like to get our laptop repaired. When unscrupulous individuals want to scam, it's usually the laptop users (in distress due to their laptop issues) who are the victims.

If you know how to repair laptops and have your own legitimate business don't think you are immune to getting scammed. With almost any business, there will be customers trying to deceive and game the business for their own gains and no, I'm not referring to competitors either.

-How The Scam Affects The Consumer-

A Typical Example

A  customer may view an ad on the internet stating that their laptop can be repaired by the respective company at an extremely low cost. They click on the ad and go to the business website. After some communication and being guaranteed a low cost, the customer pays shipping and mails their laptop to the laptop repair shop for them to repair it.

laptop fraudHere is where things get a little muddy. From here on out they may give you a new figure on the cost to get your laptop repaired, which most likely will be higher than what they told you. If that does not happen, at some point along the way they may tell you that they are unable to fix your laptop.

Around that time they will make any communication between you and them difficult such as language barriers or language to confuse. The main goal for them is to keep your laptop or laptop parts and lie to you by saying they are unable to fix it. Some scamps will try to get more money from you during this process as well.

If you get your laptop back and it hasn't been repaired, they probably screwed up many more things in your laptop, making real repair much more difficult.

In most cases you won't even receive a single laptop from the fraudster. Just had some one try to pull this on me today. The list of software loads to be done is the same as in your example. They were going to ship me 6 laptops and a check for 2850.00 for repair and return shipping I was to pay for return shipping by wiring the money to an unkown as yet shipping company. He said he got my name from craigslist where I had been looking for work, appliying at what I thought was legitimate companies.
