The Best Medical References on the Web

Medical dictionaries have come a long way. At one time, we only had huge tomes to wade through. Now, with an internet search, thousands of medical terms are at your fingertips. But what are the most trusted sources for this information? Are all online medical dictionaries created equal?

Within the medial field, some dictionaries are more valued than others. Whether you're a medical student, a medical office worker, or a writer researching a health topic, here are some of the top names in medical dictionaries. Included are US and international references that are either free or available by subscription.

As a medical transcriptionist, I have one of those big medical dictionaries on my desk. But medical terminology is changing, sometimes at a rapid pace, and it's always convenient to have some of these sites listed below bookmarked for easy use.
