My Story on Online Music Promotion

In the beginning, the hardest thing for me to do was online music promotion.

In a nutshell, I was working all hours of the day and night feeling unappreciated, unrespected, and my check was not reflecting how hard I was working.

This wasn't just doing Internet music promotion, I'm talking about my job working for my boss.

I was counting down till the day of my retirement from this place and my music sales were not going anywhere to help me count faster... sounds great right? YEAH RIGHT!

I kept buying more books and more manuals on music promotion online but I never seemed to be getting anywhere.

I actually ended up quitting my job before I made anything. DON'T DO what I did... TRUST ME!! However, here ARE some tips to follow.

Online Music Promotion the WRONG WAY

Here are a few tips on what you shouldn't do in the beginning of your online music promotion ventures.

1. Pay for promotion

-most websites will charge you around $50,000 to put your banner or advertisement on their site for just a week.

As crazy as all of that sounds, I was actually going to pay for it. When you're starting out DO NOT spend thousands on top of thousands on this kind of stuff. That money will come later.

2. Buy hundreds of e-books because the more you buy, the more you won't want to read them.

-if you want to learn a Internet music promotion, buy one book at a time. It's nice to have an abundance of information however, the more piles of books you make the more you'll look at the stack and realize how much work it is to read all of them.

This causes your subconscious mind to become lazy and tired before you even begin.

3. Ignore your e-mails and messages from fans.

-why do people do this? Obviously, because they don't want to waste too much time on one fan so they just completely ignore all of them lol.

I'm not even going to get too deep into this, but, if a fan sends you a message explaining to you how much they like your music, that's your chance to take their enthusiasm and use it to market yourself.

Ask them if they wouldn't mind putting your banner, music, or even video on their web page.

Offer them a percentage of revenue for the sales they generate, and you just gave them a job and you've also made yourself more money.
