Our Missing Children Were Exploited | Online Child Predators Statistics Prove it!
In 1999, a study conducted by The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children by the University of New Hampshire's Crimes against Children Research Center revealed the following:1. In 1998, 20% of all children on the Internet received a sexual solicitation or approach.
2. Roughly 30% received some form of sexual solicitation. For example: the solicitor asked for a face-to-face meeting; requested a phone call; or requested to mail money or gifts.
3. 25% had been shown partially or completely nude people or pictures depicting the sex act.
4. 1 in 17 of these young people were threatened or harassed.
5. Less than 10% of these incidents were reported to law enforcement agencies, internet providers, or a hot tip line.
Note: According to a 2006 study by the Zandi Group, three in 10 "tweens" (children ages 8-12) have access to the Internet at home. That represents a very large target for entities ranging from legitimate publishers and marketers to scammers and predators.

Why Protecting The Tweens (8-12 yrs old) Is Important | Online Child Predator Statistics for Tweens
A 2006 study, conducted, and later published by the Polly Klaas Foundation regarding tween and teen Internet experiences showed that tweens should definitely be informed and admonished regarding Internet interface right away before they get any older.
- 12% of tweens as opposed to 56% teens say they were asked for their identity information.
- 10% of tweens as opposed to 54% of teens often talked with people they did not know via instant messages (IM's).
- 5% of tweens as opposed to 42% of teens advised they posted online some personal information.
- 4% of tweens as opposed to 30% reported that they have talked with a person they did not know about meeting them somewhere.
- 16% of tweens as opposed to 30% of teens reported that they had discovered that someone on the Internet was pretending to be much younger.
