E commerce is business with a future. It is very interesting it looks like never ending story. You need right products, right traffic, right support ... But in the end - it pays big! (At least I suppose, still struggling on the second page for my main keyword...)

Are you wondering which merchant account provider your business should start with? Check out my reviews of accredited processors at http://www.bestonlinemerchantaccounts.com/

Great article! Ecommerce can get complicated with all the steps involved in being successful at running your business online. A great way to consolidate a majority of the steps laid out above is to align your business with a reputable credit card processing company. Anyone interested in seeing which processors make the most sense for their business should check out my review website and let me know of any questions. http://www.bestonlinemerchantaccounts.com/

oh yes another way that peope can take money without having a merchant account is by using paypal. It is easier and faster especially when starting out and is a way of getting up and running with less monthly costs.

Gevans - regarding chargebacks, this can be dealt with if you use very good customer care to deal with the issue. Althought you wont be able to prevent all chargebacks you can minimize it as much as possible by communicating with a customer promptly and effectively this way you might be able to do a refund which works to your favour.

We shouldn't forget about quality bespoke ecommerce web design. It's the first thing you have to remember if you want to achieve success. Stunning design may help you grab the attention of clients once they’ve approached the site.

Thanks for the great content and interesting information. I can't still right articles in less than one hour but I am close. Besides writing content for my Squidoo lenses, I recently wrote several articles for Dental Marketing Blog with the pen name of dental marketing expert:
    Dental Marketing Blog
Also some other articles for some other websites about dental marketing. At first it took me a long time to write one article but as I write more it gets faster and easier. Here are a couple of important points from my experience:
1- One of the things that helped me boost my confidence at first was help of professional editors. I think if you write and you know that an expert will re-check your work, then you have more confidence while you are writing. Also it definitely helps when you compare the edited version with your version. Paying attention to the differences helps you write better.
2- I can't agree more with your points about title and content of the articles. I just want to emphasize them even more. From my experience, it helps if you write all of the titles that are interesting and have SEO value in a separate file. Then once in a while when you are in the writing mood it gives you a jump start.
    Thanks again for the info.

Just a quick note, seems like some of your steps are off - not sure if they were meant to be just 9 things to do, or to do in order, but small business owners starting up and online account will want to first set up their business bank account (if they haven't already), then select the merchant account they wish to work with and then the payment gateway. I always recommend people go merchant account first, as often merchant service providers can offer free payment gateways for signing with them, which can save the merchant from paying for it first (if they went payment gateway and then merchant account)
  • gevans411 May 31, 2011 @ 9:22 pm | delete
great article, one item that was left out was the issue of chargebacks. while a part of any business, online business owners are at a much greater risk of dealing with them and need to take as many precautions as possible to avoid chargebacks whenever possible.

Love the 9 tips. Great lens thank you. I've found also that having a very clear add to cart button and keep shopping button on both the checkout page and page they go to after adding an item has helped conversion ratios as well as up the dollar amount spent per sale. Hope that made sense!
