Finding an Online Degree and How to Start

Accreditation is the first step to online degree success

Honestly, in the majority of cases, selecting an actual campus degree program is preferable to an online degree. It's a question of credibility and exposure - learning remotely versus hands-on learning (even then, a campus program isn't necessarily the type of hands-on exposure you'll get in the business world, but it helps bridge the gap better).

There may be a variety of reasons why you would want to pursue an online degree. Perhaps you travel frequently or hold down a job that would make it difficult to pursue a traditional degree. Perhaps you don't have the experience or credentials to get into a nearby program. Maybe there's a social phobia. Maybe you feel the need to improve your current skill set through additional education. Whatever the reason, you can make pursuing an online degree a major success in life if you approach it the right way.

The best kind of online degree program is one that is accredited. This means that the program at least meets some comparable education standard. It doesn't mean that you're getting your money's worth, but it does mean that you'll not be given a bachelor's degree for knowing how to count to 100. The expense of an accredited online college degree will vastly outweigh the apparent "deal" of an online degree program without accreditation. Be forewarned.

Getting Online College Program References

Talk to People Who Have Gone Through the Program

Would you buy a car without doing some research? Of course not. Research quality always seems to be an issue during purchases, though. When I bought my last car, I didn't talk to anyone who owned the same type of car beforehand and I regretted it.

An online college program is exactly the same. You're handing over years of your life and thousands of dollars, but you may be so anxious and preoccupied with other things that you take their word for the experience you're going to have instead of talking to someone who has already been through the online college degree program. You need the truth about what you're going to get for your time and money, and while well-meaning, no online degree representatives are ever going to be objective. Objective would mean being able to refer you to a different program if the fit is wrong. Most colleges should be able to direct you to people who you can talk to (since there's no college campus to browse). Use the opportunity and find someone who's in your similar life stage/situation or has a similar focus for the online degree. You won't regret it.

Excellent lens for those who would like to earn online college degrees in whichever field they desire. The main advantage to home study is that you have that much needed flexibility allowing you to mould or rather sculpt your degree programme around your current life situation. Excellent work nonetheless.
