Fashion Design History
A man named Charles Frederick Worth was considered to be the first fashion designer, conducting his career throughout the latter half of the nineteenth century. Worth's fashion education began as an apprentice to two London textile merchants who supplied fabrics to dressmakers. Worth furthered his education by studying historic portraits at the National Gallery and other collections, which provided inspiration for his own designs.See Worth's designs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
