Featuring Fiction found on the Web

After writing down my arguments on why reading fiction online can be cool, I found it time to highlight some fiction I found on the web and really liked. This doesn't mean I don't read regular books anymore, I am still a very big book-lover, but I thought it was time to give some of the fiction I found some more attention.

I will be covering web-serials, novels, shortstories and some other stuff, but there is also room to feature your own favorites, as well as a module where authors can promote their work. I hope you all enjoy this Lens.

I have written an introduction on Web Fiction if you are not sure what Web Fiction is, or want to know more about the subject.

Featured Web-Serials

Fiction updated on a regular basis

The Wikipedia gives the following defenition for Webserials:
A webserial is a written work of literature available primarily or solely on the Internet. The term comes from old serial stories that were once published regularly in newspapers. They are also sometimes referred to as 'webcomics without pictures'.
Unlike an online novel or e-book, it is not compiled and published as a whole; instead, it is released on the Internet in chapters as they are finished, although published compilations and anthologies are not unknown. It compares to a novel the same way a webcomic compares to a published comic book.

Personally I don't completely agree with this sentence, especially with the last sentence, since the way it is published creates a very different build-up than a regular novel. More cliffhangers at the end of chapters or parts are the biggest difference compared with a regular novel.

Currently I'm featuring 3 webserials I thoroughly enjoyed reading. You are more than welcome to promote me your personal favorite, just partake in the plexo vote at the bottom of this lens.

An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom

Sweeping through a thousand years, "An Intimate History" follows the story of a royal family as it is told to the latest and possibly last heir to its throne. This is the history the history books leave out-royal loves and lusts that changed the course of events.
Will Temmin and his sisters revive the royal magic and avert disaster? Perhaps, if they heed the magic book that reveals the forgotten stories of the kingdom's women--and learn from the mysterious and immortal Teacher. Follow young and naive Temmin, the smart and practical Sedra, and the cheerful, flirtatious Ellika over the course of ten years, from young adulthood to Temmin's coronation.

Servicing The Pole

Servicing the Pole is the portrait of a New York stripper-a battle-worn misfit slogging her way through the city's roughest clubs, watching as the job replaces her personal life, and secretly harbouring rock star ambitions.

As the fast-paced night life's deceptive promises of easy money gradually give way to the harsher realities of addiction and prostitution, Emily must decide-is this really the person she wants to be? And if so, at what price?

Scary Mary

Scary Mary is an online novel for teens about a high school girl who hears ghosts. Mary begins her junior year of high school without high expectations. As the resident school freak, she'd just like to be left alone, but Cy Asher, a new student, tries to befriend her. The budding friendship, though, dies when Mary discovers Cy's house is haunted and not by Casper, The Friendly Ghost. Cy refuses to believe Mary when she tells him about the ghost. Mary must work without his help to exorcise the spirit, but luckily, she does get help from her best friend extrodinaire Rachel, her fortune-telling grandmother, and a dead Scottish Terrier named Chowder.

I've started writing Shirker John, Leprechaun online, but didn't think to call it a web-serial. John himself may be a serial fantasy fabricator - but that comes naturally to leprechauns. I've added a link in your list above.

Like you I read a lot of books, but web-fiction is a nice nice way to augment my diet.
