It seems that the modern dream of making money without leaving the comfort of your home is now more of a a reality. At least if the web 'gurus' are to be believed.Yet for a beginner the task surely seems daunting - where do you begin? Let's look at a few key considerations.
1. Buying and selling.
A well-established form of making money via any platform, buying and selling is one that merchants have used since the beginning of time. Basically, you source products to sell at a profit. How easy is that? To to build a successful merchant operation anywhere is a time-consuming and can be ademanding occupation, requiring its own special skills and know-how. So how does it relate to the internet?
Many people would think that having an on-line shop is the answer, and it's true that it can be. For a beginner, however, there's a lot to learn and quite probably an investment in terms of stock and associated necessary add-ons.
It would seem that a much easier way to get into on-line trading is to start up an account with eBay and 'sell what you got' in order to cut you teeth in the online world.
Indeed, an eBay shop can be embedded within your own website, where other products (subject to some eBay restrictions) can also be sold.
It's a great way of driving traffic to your website! An eBay shop lets you get maximum exposure with minimum effort and know-how and can be a great proving-ground wherein to practise your business skills. But what if you don't want to be a merchant in the traditional sense? Well, another option may be -
2. Affiliate Programs. I've lost count of the number of articles I've read about being a web affiliate. It seems that just about every major guru on the internet offers their own program these days so tailoring a package to suit your website shouldn't be too difficult and yes, this is an easy way to make some money via the web - especially if you also sign up for Google AdSense to further monetise your website.
Of course, you don't even really need a website to make money through affiliate work. Companies such as Clickbank let a beginner get into the game with even a one-page 'minisite', the only requirement of which is as a re-direct for affiliate links. It's so easy even I can do it!
If a beginner is a competent article writer, or has the ability to become one, this can become a nice part-time income stream - so this is definitely an area where the beginner can score!

2. Branding vs Business Name
There is an old age debate....
Let's look at Amazon as an example. Amazon sells books online.
Most people setting up a business would have chosen say www.booksonline.com instead of www.amazon.com.
Amazon has since established itself as a brand name of global recognition - proving the value of building a brand name.
You'll need to choose between the two. Brand name or your own business name.
Consider how your domain sounds, how it might look on a business card and how well it relates to your business.
There's no one right answer to this question. You need to choose what makes most sense for you, your website and your business in general.
3. Hyphenated or not
This is another area of debate. Should your domain be one single word or should the words be separated by hyphens?
There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Single word domain names can be easier to explain, use on header paper and lend themselves to brand names very well.
Single word domains are in very, very short supply.
Hyphenated domains names can be slighltly more difficult to explain, may not look as well on headed paper and possibly harder to establish as a brand name.
There's no shortage of multiple word domains.
The single biggest advantage a hyphenated domain has is that search engines can "read" the domain more easily.
For example in a domain like.. www.foreignholidaysonline.com the search engine can only read the first word "foreign" and that's it.
It can't tell anything else about the website domain name.
If you hyphenated that to www.foreign-holidays-online.com the search engine can read "foreign", "holidays" and "online" as separate words and therefore knows that this website is about foreign holidays.
A well chosen hyphenated domain name can be just as effective as a single word domain name.

What is a domain name?
A domain name is the location of your website on the Internet. Your domain name will be what you become known by online so it's important to get it right.
5 Tips For the Perfect Domain Name
Each website on the Internet is labeled with something called an IP address which is the actual address of the website online.
A typical IP address looks like this: 159.134.27.64. Remembering a string of numbers like that is difficult so a domain name translates all those numbers into something like www.amazon.com.
This is far easier to remember.
1. Dot what?
Each domain has what's called an extension. The most well known of these extensions is .com. This, however, is not the only type of domain extension available. There is also:
.net
If you can't find your preferred .com domain name you could always choose the same domain with a .net extension. It might not have the same ring as a .com but is still as just useful as a .com.
.org
These domain extensions were orginally designed for educational and more formal websites. Anybody can register a .org however so you have more options for domain selection.
.info
Another introduction to the domain name game are .info domains. Many of the valuable .info domains were bought up overnight but there's still a huge range of good .info domains available.
With a little creativity you could really make a .info work for you e.g. www.moviereview.info.

This takes some research but things worth checking are:
Do you retain sole ownership of the domain or do the registrar keep some level of control over it?
Does the registrar allow you to transfer the domain to another registrar?
Is there an online control panel for domain administration?
How easy is it to change the domain Name Servers?
Shop around for domain registrars. What you really want to find is a previously satisfied customer to ask questions before you buy.
5. Cheap Domain Names
You can save a lot of money on the domain names you purchase. A typical .com domain costs about $8.99 to register from most registrars. However you can get the same domain for as little as $3.99 from other, very reliable, companies.
Oddly enough some of the cheaper domain registrars are more reliable, have fewer horror stories and offer equally good customer service as their more expensive competitors.

This is the question you should ask yourself. What do you think about, or what things do you imagine when you are selling, or working on your marketing materials?

You should be wanting to attract money, sales, and traffic, because those are good things that you should be thinking about, but there is a better time to be thinking about such things.

Organic search marketing is a real alternative to pay per click for online success.
But all too often they accept the received wisdom that pay per click and paid advertising will give the return that is so eagerly sought without really fully considering online organic search marketing properly.
Pay per click and advertising on well-visited websites certainly has its benefits, I cannot and will not deny that assertion.
Pay per click (PPC) is easy to understand and, unlike many marketing activities, the return can be calculated very accurately indeed - and those are the great attributes.
It also gives the marketing manager or owner an immediate hit. The pressure to get results quickly is baring down and pay per click can certainly ease the pressure with immediate effect - a simple solution handed on a plate.
Yet, this singular approach is not fully justified. Yes, pay per click and paid advertising can be highly effective; we all hear the anecdotal examples of business acquaintances and their limitless praise for this approach. But the approach is limited.
I am not discounting pay per click or paid advertising: there is a place for both in combination with organic search marketing.
Indeed, the best campaigns combine both approaches to stunning effect because both present different strengths which work well together. But if you have to choose there is a clear winner: organic search.
Before I explain further I really need to clarify what I mean by organic search marketing. I am referring to a collection of methods that includes using discussion forums, social networking sites, reciprocal links, identifying and utilising sites that Google and other prominent search engines use to rank websites and good old fashioned search engine optimisation: search engine ranking.
And it is the last of these that I will concentrate on to demonstrate that there is another way of attaining the results you want from your online marketing.
So why do I have such believe in organic search marketing?
What is my proof?
Why, according to online experts E-consultancy, does 84% of online spend come in the form of paid placement and PPC and the small remaining 16% on organic search marketing if the latter has so much to offer?

Well my first point is that organic search...
Online marketing, as with so many disciplines, is not fully understood and if it is not understood by the buyer then they will often chose the option they can quickly get a grip of or feel comfortable with: PPC and paid placement.
We must remember as marketers that not everyone has the appreciation or understanding of online marketing.
And we must remember that many marketers are experts in a particular field but do not have a full comprehension of the full marketing mix, at least not to the same depth as their specialisation.
But my proof goes further: various studies show that a prospective buyer will use organic searches 60% - 80% of the time. Moreover, organic search results gather up to six times more clicks than paid for advertising.
The reasons for this can possibly be attributed to a number of factors. Firstly, buyers tend to trust search engines.
A brand such as Google fosters confidence; advertising cannot provide the same assurance as it is bought rather than earned.
Secondly, according to a study conducted by US marketing firm Enquiro and eye tracking technology company Eyetools, surfers follow an F shaped pattern of scanning.
This means that the search results, on the left, are viewed more closely than on the right where the PPCs are located.
I would like to re-iterate that PPC and paid placement certainly have a role in a comprehensive online marketing plan. The F viewing pattern extends over to the PPC - but only the top ones.
Pay per click search company Overture's research has confirmed this viewpoint. A marketing campaign that secures a combination of a top three placement with a top placed PPC will generate a 93% chance of gaining a click.
The Advertising Association has found that Internet advertising is up 73% for the first half of the year.
It certainly works for some companies. But its success is also its drawback. The more we use PPC and paid advertising the more its currency diminishes.
I only have to think of texting and e-mails to back this point up: the more we use PPC the more we will all ignore it and the more the cost will go up for the most popular search words.
Online search marketing undeniably does not have the immediate hit of PPC and paid advertising.

Many companies will find its longevity and substance of organic search a real benefit.
Organic search marketing benefits from low costs, established reader behaviour and the trust of many commercial and consumer surfers in their search engines to provide the most meaningful search returns.
Consequently, online search cannot be discounted from any online campaign that really wants to give a substantial return.
With organic search marketing technique rapidly evolving and being popularised and PPC becoming over subscribed it can only be a matter of time before clever marketers take heed and chose another way to do their online marketing.
