This is my Lens to help everyone enjoy the ease of use of the US Postal Services online Click-N-Ship program. For small businesses or households it is the creme de la creme for taking care of your  Priority & Express Mail package shipping. As of May 8th 2008, when using Click-N-Ship you save 1-11% on your Priority Mail shipments. You can also save a flat 3% on your Express Mail shipments. These discounts are what we call "Commercial Based Pricing". And if saving money isn't enough, you can also save a massive amount of time by not having to wait in line with your package. Just bring it into the post office and set it on the counter, or put in drop box, and out the door you go. In & Out in no time. Or if you just cannot get to the post office at all, you can even schedule a FREE Carrier Pickup at no charge for thenext business delivery day. OH, by the way: did I mention FREE DELIVERY CONFIRMATION. It really is one of the easiest things since sliced bread. The way I view it, if you have an IQ of 10, you can work it.

Getting Going
Starting link to register for the use of the www.usps.com website.
STEP 1/ You need to pick a user name & password just like every other website in the world. Please remember, you are going up against everyone else in America.
STEP 2/ Decide whether this will be a Personal or a Business account. Note: If you choose BUSINESS account, it will ask for a First & Last name. Please realize this name will print on the label. Not all businesses want a persons name on the label, so to counter that, somehow fit your business name in those two fields. The label will then print showing your business name twice. Not so bad.
STEP3/ This may be the most important step of all: Please write down your USERNAME & PASSWORD and keep it handy. OK, you're almost there.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

TIDBITS OF INFORMATION

* The #1 feature of this program is that by using a credit card in your Click-N-Ship account, you print authorized US postage shipping labels.
It prints what's called an "IBIT" postage indicia on your packages.
By using this type of US Postage shipping label, you will be receiving whats called our "Commercial Based Pricing". hence the percentage discounts I mentioned earlier in thie LENS.

CREATING YOUR SHIPPING LABEL

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION

* Go to www.usps.com
* Sign in @ www.usps.com
* Click on Click-N-Ship/PRINT A SHIPPING LABEL link
* Select the country you are mailing to, click GO
* Notice Return Address info fields to the left. This side automatically populates with your address information. Thus Delivery Address fields are on the right side.
* Two ways to enter field data on the Delivery side. Either enter each field by keyboard, or click on "USE ADDRESS BOOK" and pick a entry which you have previously entered into your address book. Address book holds up to 3000 entries.
* Entering an address manually, still allows you to select a box to automatically save the entered address information into your address book.
* You can also enter a recipients email address and an email will be sent automatically to them after you print their mailing label.
* You can enter an Reference/Invoice number
* NOTE: On the left hand side you must do one thing, Select whether its shipping from the zip of your account, or another zip. 99.9% of the time it will be your account zip. The other .01% might be if you were on vacation and you mailed something.
* ENTER PACKAGE INFORMATION
Weight - Of course this means you need a scale. Scales have come way down in price over the past few years. Even if you're not a heavy mailer, they are affordable. See below in my LENS, maybe eBay has a few showing.
Pounds & Ounces
* Answer a package size question.
* Select shipping date. You may select either the exact date or up to three days in advance.
* If you are going to be using our new Express Mail "Hold for Pickup" option, select the box. You then will fill in a couple fields
* If insuring, entering the dollar amount up to $500.00.
CLICK CONTINUE
Next page to come up is where you select which type of mailing service you wish to use. Make your selection, then CLICK CONTINUE.
NOTICE: For any PRIORITY service you pick, you just received FREE Delivery Confirmation. Also, for only $1.80 more you can get Signature Delivery confirmation. Nice to know who signs some times, HUH
* At this point the program has put the label into the SHIPPING CART. It sets it in there in case you have additional packages to mail.
NOTE: Nice feature of this program is it allows you to put up to TEN labels into the SHIPPING CART before you have to empty it. This translates into ONE (1) transaction charge to your credit card instead of one for each package.
* At this point you can either CREATE A NEW LABEL, or CLICK CONTINUE to print your label.
* After the CLICK CONTINUE button you will be prompted with one last security feature for using your credit card. the program will ask you to enter the 3 digit code on the back of your credit card. after that you must check a box that states you are not mailing anything hazardous, or potentially dangerous. Then CLICK PRINT.
* The Adobe Reader software will load up on the screen. You must have Adobe Reader version 5.0 or better to ensure the label will print. Once the Adobe Reader print box pops up, select printer, than click OK.
* System will ask you if label(s) printed correctly, if so click YES. This is when your credit card gets charged.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT SELECT NO AFTER LABELS PRINT TO AVOID CHARGE, AND THEN USE LABELS ANYWAY. THIS IS US POSTAL SERVICE, FEDERAL FRAUD AND DEFINITELY COULD LEAD TO AN INVESTIGATION BY THE POSTAL INSPECTORS. ITS NOT WORTH IT. BE HONEST.
* Label will print on a plain sheet of printer paper. Cut label along dotted line and attach mailing label to box. Keep receipt for your records.
* Peel & stick Click-N-Ship labels are available for purchase on usps.com or any office supply warehouse. Our site links you to www.labeluniverse.com

* YOU ARE DONE. EASY WASN'T IT.

* At this point you have a couple of options.
1/ You can bring your package to any post office and drop it in a drop box if it will fit. Leave it on an open counter where the window clerks work
2/ Right after your label printed, the program asked you if you would like a FREE carrier pickup. If you would prefer that, click on the link to schedule. A few short fields to fill in, and you're done. You don't even have to be home if you have a secure place to leave it. It will be your normal mail delivery person that stops by on their normal delivery schedule.

* One small note: If you do select the pickup method, please ensure that you select the date to be on the label for the day of the pickup. If you don't, then it looks like it is already one day late when we get it. That's our small request of you.

* Also, please make sure you're honest with your weights and measures. Its better to pay the correct price yourself, then have it delivered postage due to the receipient. Kind of embarrassing, eh

Putting this LENS together for all of you out there in the United States has been my pleasure. I hope you find it useful in your daily business life.
There are future enhancements coming that will give you more latitude in what you mail and how you pay. I'll have to leave that alone until its actually in service.
  • I'm leaving this section open. I believe my spelling to be correct throughout this LENS, so there should not be any confusing sentences. Though it may not seem like I put a lot of information out there to walk you through printing your shipping labels using Click N Ship, as I stated, if you have an IQ of 10, you'll figure it out. After 2 or 3 labels you'll be whipping them out in about 2 minutes.
