Examples of Onomatopoeia in Poems
Onomatopoeia is not only a fun word to say, it's a fun way to introduce children to poetry. By using words that imitate the sound they are describing there really is no limit to the poets imagination.
Simple poems such as Baa baa black sheep use onomatopoeia, and many onomatopoeic words are common everyday words such as splash and tick-tock.
Introducing onomatopoeia to children is simple. Just ask them "What sound does a dog make?" or "What sound does a car make".
Watching some of the videos below will help cement the idea of onomatopoeia. The old Batman tv shows are an excellent example.
