Where is Oolong From?

Oolong TeaUp in the mountainous regions of some areas in China (one famous area is Wuyi), grows an incredible type of tea plant. This tea plant has been known by the Chinese for tens of centuries, and has been cultivated for literally ages there.is

(It is also grown in the mountains of Taiwan).

The Chinese revere this tea and drink it for all kinds of ailments that they have, as well as for the taste.

Western people have mixed feelings, apparently, about the taste.

I have read reviews written by people who adore the flavor of this tea, and others by people who couldn't stand it.

The type of tea that I'm talking about is "oolong" tea.

While regular ole' green tea is still the tea of choice among many health seekers, oolong tea is gaining fast as it gets more well-known and becomes more available in the general marketplace.

Oolong tea is Camellia sinensis in scientific terms, and in China is also known as Wu Long (a variant pronunciation).

The word "oolong" means "black dragon" in Chinese (according to one source, but that is, apparently, not the only story of how oolong tea got its name).

This tea is halfway between green tea and black tea, being partially fermented.

The Incredible Health Benefits of Oolong Tea

Ali Shan Oolong

While oolong tea has been shown to have many incredible health benefits, probably the most famous health benefit of all is its ability to help people lose weight.

According to scientific studies that were done in China in 2009, the use of oolong tea promoted overall body weight reduction and particularly waist and abdominal fat reduction in both men and women, with a stronger action being found in women.

In the same study, oolong tea drinking was found to help in the increase of overall fat metabolism, which affected the pancreas in a positive way, reducing the likelihood of hyperlipidemia.

Another study done in Japan even earlier (in 1999) showed that oolong tea consumption helped, not only to prevent obesity by helping to metabolize fats, but also could reduce disease in those who already suffered from a fatty liver.

The overall effect was weight reduction, even while on a very high fat diet.

One of the active ingredients that were found to be helpful in the overall effect was caffeine, but it was specific to oolong tea.

The other health benefits that are associated with oolong tea are:

Antioxidant activities (oolong tea is a free radical killer!)

Helps to reduce high blood pressure

Helps with diabetes, particularly type 2

Tooth decay prevention

General anti-allergy properties, including skin ailments, and histamine reactions

Bronchial ailments

Reduces blood cholesterol

Helps to reduce triglycerides

Promotes overall heart health

Helps with a variety of digestive problems

Promotes bone strength and health

Helps reduce stress reactions

Helps to reduce the likelihood of getting a variety of cancers
