One golden rule for success on the internet is that focusing on a small niche of people works far better than trying to be everything to everyone. Stores like Ebay or Amazon are few and far between. As I'm sure you can imagine in such a profitable market, there are a huge number of companies out there offering online store software and it's important to make an informed decision. Setting up your store using the wrong software can be disastrous for a number of reasons.
Firstly the software may not perform reliably and so your customers may struggle to actually buy from you. Secoondly the software may lack key features which renders it impractical for our uses. Alternatively the reverse may be true and you may end up paying needlessly for features you either won't use or could get for free elsewhere.
Personally I have been using 1ShoppingCart.com recently and find that their service is excellent. My customers also seem to enjoy it based on the number of orders I get each month!
