Open Segment Woodturnings

Open segment vase

This type of woodturning is not for the faint of heart. One slip with that turning gouge and you have nothing but a pile of scraps.
This piece was made with black walnut, maple, purpleheart and black dyed veneer.
It's about 12" tall.

Open segment bowl

This is an open segment semi closed bowl.
It's called semi closed because the rim is smaller than the bowls large diameter.
I didn't turn this bowl all at once. I turned it as It was being built. Otherwaise it would have been very difficult to turn.

Open segment vase

This open segment vase also includes a second generation linear laminate pattern in the centerband.
Like the piece above it was also turned as it was being built. Otherwise it most certainly would not have made it.
