Open Source Network Monitoring

Ranked #2,241 in Computers & Electronics, #39,329 overall

Free, open network monitors come to a network near you

Network monitoring tools, both commercial & open source, have come a long way in the last few years.

One of the most exciting recent developments in the open source arena has been the emergence of commercial operators in the open source space.

Why Do I Need Network Monitoring?

The main selling point for network monitoring systems is availability. Can you afford your network to be down for a long time without you knowing about it?

In many cases, especially in smaller organisations, there isn't a significant cost to downtime. In others, like financial organisations, huge costs are associated with even a short period of downtime.

Plainly, the amount of pain associated with downtime will help you in deciding what level of network monitoring is right for you.

Awesome list! Thanks. BTW, Hyperic does have a community version, so it's not strictly commercial only.

I think it would be termed as "commercial" open source which is the category I've placed it into. ;)
