Strange then at times it appears not a popular area for open source. It may be understandable with the industry built around supporting accounts software currently that there are not too many solutions. But after further investigations there are actually some very interesting and exciting open source alternatives.
Whether its Small Business or Personal Finance (GnuCash) right through to full ERP (Compiere) there seems to be something for everyone. Added to this the ability to utilise other open source software Linux for operating systems, PostgreSQL for databases and Apache as a web server there is quite a compelling argument.
SQL-ledger is web based so could answer remote access requirements plus opening up opportunities for software as a service (SaaS)
Whatever the requirement open source accounts software should at least be compared at the systems selection stage.
