Virtual Installs
Some of the installs can be quite complicated including databases and web servers. They can also be quite time consuming if you just want a quick look to appraise the software. Strange then at times it appears not a popular area for open source. It may be understandable with the industry built around supporting accounts software currently that there are not too many solutions. But after further investigations there are actually some very interesting and exciting open source alternatives.
Whether its Small Business or Personal Finance (GnuCash) right through to full ERP (Compiere) there seems to be something for everyone. Added to this the ability to utilise other open source software Linux for operating systems, PostgreSQL for databases and Apache as a web server there is quite a compelling argument.

Whatever the requirement open source accounts software should at least be compared at the systems selection stage.
