What is Operation Homefront?

I just found out about this great program for our soldiers in the Armed Forces called Operation Homefront. This program provides emergency assistance and morale to the troops and to the soldiers' families who are left behind and to those soldiers that are injured and have to return back home. This is a non-profit organization that has over 30 chapters nationwide with over 4,500 volunteers that has already helped over 45,000 families in need. If you read further down in the lens, I will further explain the programs that Operation Homefront provides to our soldiers and their families.

Holiday Program

Operation Homefront chapters offer many holiday programs throughout the year. Each chapter is unique however in the holiday programs they choose to offer. Please check with your local chapter for more information on their specific holiday programs. The suggested programs for our chapters are:

Holiday baskets: Something special for families during the Christmas season. Our holiday baskets usually contain food, gift certificates and/or toys for the children.

Adoptafamily: During the Christmas holidays, this program puts families of the deployed with families willing to help by providing a holiday dinner and presents for the children.

Easter baskets: Some of our chapters choose to offer Easter baskets to the children of our deployed military. Chapters with extensive programs may also offer the program to nondeployed military families who prove financial need.

Back to school supplies: Chapters may choose to participate in a back to school program. Many chapters provide military children a backpack filled with supplies such as: pens, pencils, ruler, notebooks, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, colored pencils, highlighters, markers, and file folders.

Food Assistance

The purpose of the food assistance program is to assist families during difficult times with gift certificates/gift cards to enable them to purchase items they need. Operation Homefront Chapters may choose to keep a steady supply of donated non-perishable food, diapers and formula to assist families or use gift certificates and/or gift cards depending on the type of system implemented.
Donors can donate grocery gift certificates to Operation Homefront chapters directly by visiting the local chapter website or you may donate certificates to the national office. Certificates donated to the national office are used to distribute to chapters as their supplies are depleted or to issue to clients in areas where no operating chapter exists.

Many of our chapters also offer holiday food programs in which they provide either gift cards or nonperishable food items for the following holiday meals: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Please contact your local chapter to see if they will be participating in the holiday meal program.

Donors may also donate commissary gift certificates to Operation Homefront chapters by clicking here.

Housing Program

Short-term Housing for Wounded Warriors: Operation Homefront Village
Wounded warriors are a specific concern for Operation Homefront. According to recent statistics, more than 30,000 service members have been wounded in action. Service members disabled from injuries return home, are discharged from the service and have 30 days to vacate base housing. Then they have to wait, some as long as 18 months, for their VA compensation to begin while they continue recuperating at major medical facilities (and pay the mortgage back home). That is why Operation Homefront is establishing Operation Homefront Villages near Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Operation Homefront Villages are rent-free and fully-furnished 2- and 3-bedroom apartment units. They also feature extensive community centers, space for children to play, computers with specialized software to accommodate disabilities, and counselors to assist with filing benefit claims, educational assistance including scholarships and college enrollment, and help train for and find good-paying jobs.
Priority placement for housing will be defined as followed:

Wounded service members who will be receiving a medical discharge or retirement within six months and up to two years after military discharge or retirement.
Wounded service members receiving treatment at local military hospitals
Service Members/Veterans who are within six months of discharge and up to two years after discharge and are pursuing higher education and are unable to afford housing on their own.
Service Members/Veterans who are within six months of discharge or up to two years after discharge and are unable to afford housing.
Foreclosure Prevention
The housing crisis presents major financial challenges to many military families, and Operation Homefront has seen a significant increase in foreclosures. Operation Homefront can provide emergency financial assistance with mortgage and rent payments for families of deployed and families of wounded warriors. More important, in some cases, we can help modify and renegotiate mortgage loans to create a reasonable mortgage payment and ensure families can continue to live in their homes.

For more information on the housing programs, please speak with your local Operation Homefront chapter or if there is not a chapter in your state, please contact our Military Family Support department.

Furniture Program

The purpose of the furniture program is to coordinate donations of quality used furniture, baby items and appliances to military families in need. Every attempt to move items directly from the donor to client should be made, as storage facilities cannot typically handle large quantities of big furniture items.

Items we can accept for donation:

Washer/Dryer sets
Refrigerators if we have an immediate need
Dining room furniture
Bedroom Furniture
Baby Items
Living Room Furniture
Children's clothing
Small Appliances
Miscellaneous Home Décor Items
Items we cannot accept:

Stoves
Any type of "built in" appliances
Any particularly large items which the furniture coordinator deems unacceptable.
Items in need of repair
Adult clothing

QUALIFICATION:

The service member does not have to be deployed.

PROCEDURE:

Arrangements should be made by the service member with friends, neighbors or family to pickup whenever possible.

Operation Homefront will make every attempt to have a volunteer pickup and/or deliver the item(s) if the service member is deployed.

There is no guarantee that a request for an item will be filled, although Operation Homefront will make every attempt to acquire the item requested within reason.

Baby items are in very high demand and not always available. If more than one person is in need of an item, the item will go to the person determined by the coordinator to be in the most need.

If arrangements are made for pickup of an item and the client does not show up, the item will go to the next person in need, unless a credible reason for not showing up is brought to our attention.

Foot warmth reversion: ugg nightfall are produced with variety of materials, including leather, denim, leather, suede, wool and so on. With zippers and buttons, ugg sundance ii are very convenient to put on and take off. The attractive appearance of UGG Ultra Tall derives the origin from the idea of warm UGG Rylan . The fashionable accessories in 1980s reappeared last winter on UGG Caspia and are continuing to be favored. The design of these UGG Knightsbridge follows the principle of keeping foot warm, and the shank part is made of soft materials, plus the interspace there, legs have a more comfortable environment.
