Opeth is often described as melodic death metal. Truly, there is nothing else like them. As musicians, they are all spectacular, and the vocals are one of a kind. I have never heard a voice as soft and smooth as Mikael's, yet at the same time, he has a phenominally intense death growl unlike any other. Lyrically, the music is original and powerful, as well.
I love to hear from other Opeth fans and I welcome your comments and questions about this lens. This is just my little way to spread the word about some of the music I love.

Ok, you know the drill. Stuck on a desert island, with only one Opeth CD, and a CD player with an unlimited power supply (or something...work with me here). Which one would you pick?

Opeth Essentials
Opeth Box Set
A great collection of some of their best material. Includes Blackwater Park, Damnation, Deliverance, and Lamentations Live.
Ghost Reveries
A brilliant release from Opeth. This CD includes both the heavier side and the more haunting melodic side of Opeth. A masterpiece!
Blackwater Park
This is my favorite Opeth CD, and an essential piece for anyone interested in their music. The CD is spectacular from start to finish, but the songs Harvest and the Drapery Falls are completely addictive.
Deliverance
Deliverance is the heavier of the two CDs that were released together. I can only describe this CD as an addiction. The title track has been stuck in my head since the first time I have heard it. This is a fantastic, amazing way to start every day. Throw this CD in the player and crank it up. Start to finish, this one is killer.
Opeth - Lamentations (Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire 2003)
Every Opeth fan should have this DVD. The show was fantastic and the behind the scenes material is superb. The Steven Wilson footage is a nice bonus for fans of Porcupine Tree, too.

Opeth is a Swedish heavy metal band from Stockholm, formed in 1990. While the band has been through several personnel changes, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mikael Ã…kerfeldt has remained Opeth's driving force since joining promptly after its inception.
While firmly rooted in Scandinavian death metal, Opeth has consistently incorporated influence by progressive music, folk, blues rock and jazz into their usually-lengthy compositions. Many compositions include acoustic guitar interludes and strong dynamic shifts, as well as both growling and clean vocals. Though they rarely toured in support of their first four albums, Opeth conducted their first world tour after the 2001 release of Blackwater Park.
Opeth has released nine studio albums, two live albums, two box sets, and two DVDs. The band released its debut album Orchid in 1995, but did not experience American commercial success until the 2008 release of their ninth studio album, Watershed, which peaked at number twenty-three on the Billboard 200, and topped the Finnish albums chart in its first week of release.

This lense is great. Opeth is pretty much the epitome of music. Just sick!

Awesome lens! Opeth has been one of my top faves for quite sometime now. The only band that can be so brutally heavy and yet so soft and subtle.
