Cheap Optiplex GX270 SD Motherboard.....Yea We Got You Covered!
Dell Optiplex GX170L/GX270 Motherboard Swap
Look around on the market and you will find a new Optiplex GX270 motherboard will run you about $90. Not a bad price, but only paying $15 sounds even better. How do we do this? Glad you want to know. The GX170L motherboard and GX270 small desktop motherboards are nearly identical in every way. Meaning with the right know how you can swap them out and your computer will be running like new. Let me break it down for you...
Exactly the same:
The 170L board uses the same chipset and is nearly identical in every way to the GX270 board.
The 170L board can use the same mounting tray as the GX270 board, so the I/O panel fits the case.
Your Windows XP/2000 operating system will not be upset when it boots to find the 170L board- it thinks it's the same!
The Differences:
The 170L board has 4 usb ports in the rear, the GX270 has 6 rear ports
The 170L board has 2 DDR memory slots, the GX270 has 4 slots
The 170L board has a PCI video slot, the GX270 has an AGP video slot. Both have on-board video.
Even with these minor differences you can still get your GX270 small desktop working for around $18. We can offer our motherboards at such a low price because these boards are factory direct and sent without the MAC address assigned, meaning your NIC wont be happy. Until of course you insert the CD with mac addressing software that we send along with the motherboard.
So in a nut shell if you are maxing your Optiplex GX270 this may not be the best solution. You will have to say goodbye to some USBs and memory slots.... BUT
If this is for a computer for mostly word processing, internet surfing, etc. you wont need all the extra bells and whistles and you can save about $70. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.
