Using the Default Windows Theme

I know the default Windows theme is pretty, but it's slow. The window transitions and the graphics make your machine slower.

The fix for this is simple. Find an area of space on your desktop, right click and click properties on the drop down menu. Click on the "Appearances" tab.

Here is where you can choose another theme. Choose the theme "Classic."

Click "Apply" and, in a moment, your theme will be changed.

After you open windows and click on different things, you'll notice that Windows runs quicker.

A simple optimization trick like this can boost your computer's performance. It's very simple, yet very powerful.

Optimizing Windows XP Review

I downloaded your manual and it is great! ... Thanks, we just bought three new Dells and one of the old machines that was being recycled internally was so slow nobody wanted to get stuck with the thing so it obviously made its way to the bottom of the totem pole. Now that I have followed your optimization guidelines the thing is working beautifully. Thanks again!
