Introduction to Protein Powders - Which Protein Powder is the Best for Me?

In the past, I would walk into a supplement store and just be... OVERWHELMED by the rows and rows of competing brands of protein powders. And many times, I would just grab the cheapest one and run out of the store before my head explodes!

But later on, as I educated myself about the healthier aspect of protein powders and which ones gave the best bang for the buck... it was much, much easier to pick out the protein powder that worked the best for me.

And before I do talk about the various kinds of protein powders, I also wanted to bring this up. You need to ask yourself why exactly do you want protein powder?

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey, Vanilla, 5.11-Pound Tub

And it is an important question as you will see later on on this webpage. But for many guys it could be they want to gain muscle weight. Especially if you are a skinny guy and have a difficult time gaining any muscle.

I recommend that you give Vince DelMonte a shot because he is THE ultimate personal trainer for the hard gainers! He will give you the muscle gaining diet, correct training and which bodybuilding supplement you need to look awesome within 6 months.

I know his system works because I gained 30 pounds of muscle after a lifetime of being skinny. YOU will NOT believe how much your body changed in 6 months or less... the question to ask yourself is... WHAT are you waiting for?

But lets just move on... the other reason many folks want protein powder is to supplement their meals. Now, there is a good way and a wrong way to use protein powder and don't worry, I will cover that also later on...

Next, I will be talking about why you would be drinking protein powders and what are the differences between all of them.

(keep reading below...).

What Protein Powders Can Do for You...

And no, it won't clean your house!

The first you must understand about protein powders is while they do seem expensive.... they are actually a very cheap source of protein! Whey protein powders give you a much, much bigger bang for the buck when compared to the equivalent high quality protein food sources such as steaks, chicken, eggs and milk. And not only that, it is much easier to drink 48 grams of protein in a 8 ounce glass of protein drink than eat the equivalent amount of protein from protein food sources.

My point is this... if YOU are skinny and WANT to gain muscle mass... there is no other way to do that but by increasing your intake of high quality foods. And some of the biggest mistakes I see many guys make is they waste all their money and time seeking the latest weight lifting technique or (gasp) illegal steroids!

Note to anyone thinking about taking steroids - Don't even try them!!! They are illegal for a reason and they cause a whole range of health problems that will scare the bejeebers out of YOU!

It is much, much better to gain your muscles the NATURAL way because it is safer and can be done... no matter how bad you think your skinny genes are... Again, if you are having trouble gaining muscle or are confused about what you should do... it is cheaper and faster to give Mr. Vince DelMonte a try.

Vince was the skinniest guy you ever saw and transformed himself into the Champion Canadian Fitness Model. And the thing of this is... Vince will SAVE you money be telling you what bodybuilding supplement is a total waste of your hard earned cash and which ones is necessary to get that body that you want to become. And surprisingly, the necessary stuff is not expensive at all...

The other reason someone may want to drink some protein powders is to supplement their diet. Now, protein powders have is a high quality protein source. But your body wasn't designed to drink all your foods. You shouldn't drink more than 2-3 protein shakes a day. Any more... and you may start to have some digestive problems... and besides, protein powder drinks are NOT complete foods.

To sum it up... protein powders are used for two major reasons:

  1. For bodybuilders who want to gain muscle weight quickly.

  2. For anyone who wants a quick meal by drinking a protein powder shakes.

Again, if you are short on time but want a quick meal replacement... then mixing up a scoop of protein powder with apple juice and your favorite fruit is an excellent way to do it. However, don't substitute more than 2-3 meals a day this way because... your body wasn't really designed to "drink" it's food.

This one has been the best and doesn't have any of the artificial sweeteners and other ingredients which can cause digestion problems. It mixes easily and has a very versatile and enjoyable taste. It is probably best as a post-workout or early morning protein source due to its rapid digestion. I will often take along with some fish oils or flax oil to lower the glycemic index and resulting insulin response. I want to gain some muscles 'cause I'm tired of being skinny!

ali says:

i am 68kg and want to perfact body

I don't have much time... I need a quick snack that is packed with protein!

buildmuscle11 says:

protein powder is a good supplement for lack of protein that the body needs to rebuild your muscles before and after your weight training workouts.

What's the Difference Between Protein Powders?

A big difference as you will see!

Some of the protein powders are whey isolates, whey protein concentrate, hydrolyzed whey, calcium caseinate, egg white, whole egg and so on...

And whey is just a byproduct of cheese made from cow's milk. In fact, you could say that whey protein powder is just "glorified milk."

Muscle Art

I want you to visualize yourself looking like this guy within 6 months

And as I mentioned above, protein powder is just a cheap and readily accessible way to consume good quality protein to support your muscle as you push them hard during your workouts to get bigger.

I prefer whey protein because it is easily digestible and has a wider range of proteins that your body can assimilate for pre-workout and post-workout shakes.

Last thoughts for the skinny guys... All my life I have been told that I will always be skinny. Even my family doctor told me this... So I never in my life weighed more than 150 pounds soaking wet. And when I turned 44 years old, I came across the book written by Vince DelMonte.

And he revealed the same secrets that he used to build his body. And I followed his "rules for the skinny guys" and built up my weight to 180 pounds in one summer. So my point is this... if you are skinny, and no matter what you do... you cannot seem to put on any muscle... don't blame your genes... blame it on bad information. It is all about training right. Eating right and definitely drinking protein shakes at the right times.

Good luck man...

Is Your Protein Powder Drinks Giving You a Big Headache?

Another benefit of the Optimum 100% Natural Whey protein powder is that a bunch of junk was NOT added to it. You see, many folks have a allergic reaction to the artificial flavoring and sweetener that many protein powder manufacturers add to make the shake taste better.

And I'm one of them. I would get headaches and my teeth will hurt. If you are experiencing this type of reaction after consuming a protein shake... then the artificial sweetener is probably the culprit.

Close-up of a Man Exercising

It does take effort but it is totally worth it!

And that is why Optimum protein powders is a very good choice! And besides, you can add fruit to your shake for the flavor. It is way healthier for you too!

It is harder to find protein powders that DON'T have artifical sweetener and colors. I suspect adding junk to the protein powders is just marketing ploy for the greedy supplement manufacturers to differentiate their products and jack up the prices. So just say no to added junk and get the "clean" protein powders and Optimum 100% Natural protein powder is pretty good. They come in different flavors so be sure to check them out.

Here are some of my favorite ingredients to spice up the vanilla protein powder shakes:

  1. Mixed berries

  2. Apples

  3. Pears

  4. Nectarines

  5. Peaches

  6. Almond butter (but not before and after workouts!)
I would also stay away from the soy protein powders. They are very controversial and it is best to avoid them altogether.

So there you are... you know enough about protein powders to be dangerous! :)

Oh yeah! One more thing for the ladies... ignore anyone who says that women who lift weights and drink protein powder will get all muscular and veiny... it is just total BS and you should know that! If you look at the images of the women above, you will see they look fantastic and at the same time very feminine...

Note to Readers: Here is my BIG secret... I mix my great tasting Optimum Whey Protein Powder with old fashioned chocolate milk. It is just delicious... Matt

I have been using Optimum nutrition whey protein for nearly a year now and have found it an excellent source of whey protein. Other protein shakes don't taste so good in my opinion. I tried the New whey powder and the taste was not that great.

My favorite flavor has to be double rich chocolate. When mixed with milk it tastes like quality milk shake.
