Donate anonymously online at Network For Good.org to avoid getting all those calendars, address labels and cards, while still supporting their cause.

Watch those warranty cards!
This is one of the biggest tools used by companies to build their mailing lists. You don't need to return the card most of the time, but if you do, leave the "lifestyle" section blank, giving them only your name and address. DO NOT put your phone number down, either!

Tell them when ordering by phone.
Make your preferences known to the operator taking the call that you do not wish to have your information sold, traded or rented to third parties.

Recycle what you can.
Some stuff is still going to make it through your fortress of anti-junk, so recycle what you can AFTER running it through a shredder. If you're not sure about your local recycling program, go to Earth911.org and check out programs by entering your zip code.

Great resources and information. The way I get removed without providing and registering for opt out of junk mail is every time they included a self addressed stamped envelop I put everything back in the envelope after marking VOID with a black Sharpie Pen and mail it back to them in their own envelope. I let them know I don't want to put their ads in my county landfill. It usually stops immediately. Using their envelope with their advertisement cost them money, keeps a postal worker's job and immediately removes me from their mail list. Try it sometime.

Thanks for the information. I have added my info to the do not call lists but have never heard of opting out of junk mail before.

In Australia, the telephone providers have implemented their own Stop calling me measures which work really well. If you put a sticker on your letterbox to say No Junk Mail Please, the postie respects it and so do the junk mail walkers. I love your ideas posted here. 5*

Interesting topic, "OPT OUT" is my new Sanibel Air Traffic" petition, opting out of that issue has proven a hard battle. I hope to have won.

Junk mail, well I think we help some target us an d others are like spam carpet bombers of whole areas.
Telephone bs, I have a quick tip for callers, Google the number on caller id! crooks often show right up by merely typing their number ! Try it!
Also do not engage in conversation with cold callers.
    Good topic~ opalship **** 2U above here :)
