Southern California Wild Fires

Wildfires of California of October 2007 is series of wildfires that began to burn through southern California of October the 20, forcing the evacuation of approximately 900,000 residents, although the real total can be lower. At least 1,500 homes were destroyed and around 500,000 acres (km² 2,000) of earth have been burned of the county from Santa Barbara to the Mexican border. In date of October the 24, the 16 active fires were burned in the region. Eleven people have died and at least 70 others have been damaged. Californian governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of the emergency in seven counties of California in where the fires were burned. President George W. Bush has declared that an emergency exists in the state of California and has ordered federal assistant to replace the state and local efforts of the answer. The thousands of firemen worked to fight brilliance; the units of the United States Armed Forces and the national protector of the United States helped them. The factors that contributed main to the extreme conditions of the fire were the drought in southern California, the hot time, and the unusually strong winds of Santa Ana. The winds are created to have struck under the lines of energy, driving several of fires. A fire was the turn out of the crime to set afire; one was begun by an overturned semi-car. It continues being the causes of remaining fires under investigation. The authorities predicted that the conditions of the wind would not improve until of October the 25 of 2007. Those predictions demonstrated to be correct as the wind speeds were slowed down at the single speeds of the digit, allowing that the firemen make progress more quickly.

The Santiago Fire began shortly before 5:55 p.m. on October 21, 2007 in the foothills north of Irvine and east of the city of Orange in Orange County. Fire officials have attributed the source of the fire to arson; the fire was reportedly started in three separate spots.[50] The fire has burned over 22,000 acres (89 km²) and is 30% contained. Strong winds have stalled suppression efforts and forced a dozen firefighters to seek emergency shelter under protective tents after the fire charged them. Fourteen homes and eight outbuildings have been destroyed. Twelve buildings have been damaged, and four firefighters had minor injuries as a result of the blaze. Estimates on October 23 put the fire's cost at $10 million. As of the morning of Thursday, October 25, it was still 30% contained.

San Diego Wild Fires

San Diego County is the location of the two biggest fires (by area burned). The largest, the Witch (Creek) Fire, has burned a massive area north and northeast of San Diego. The second, the Harris Fire, has burned northwest from the Mexican border towards San Diego. Officials have stated that they fear the fires could become even more destructive than the 2003 Cedar Fire, considered the worst on record. Residents were subjected to a mix of mandatory and voluntary evacuations, depending on their location in the projected path of the fire. Voluntary evacuation areas were typically further from the fire's path, while mandatory evacuation areas faced a more imminent threat. Hundreds of thousands of residents were notified of evacuations via a computerized Reverse 911 phone call system. Law enforcement officers also notified residents by driving through evacuation areas. On October 24, 2007, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender stated that the number of people evacuated in San Diego county had exceeded the number evacuated from New Orleans, Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina.
