Tips for Buying a Camera
These tips apply best for first-time buyers, not necessarily for professionals.
1. Don't worry about megapixels. An 8 megapixel camera will print an 8x10 and most cameras today print bigger. If you're not going to print much, don't get caught up the number of megapixels (see this chart for megapixel print size).2. Get as much optical zoom as you can for the money. If they tell you about digital zoom, ignore it. Digital zoom is crap. Get as much optical zoom as you can afford.
3. Read reviews on the cameras to help you decide. Here are the current best selling cameras on Amazon. Find out why by reading the reviews.
4. Stick with the better name brands like Nikon, Sony, and Canon. Here are the best selling digital camera on Amazon by Nikon, Sony, and Canon.
5. Make sure you feel comfortable holding it. Go to a store and hold it. It needs to be comfortable in your hands otherwise you won't want to use it!
6. It may be worth upgrading your budget just a bit to get a better quality camera.
