Orchids Beauty

As I was walking pass my Kitchen Table this morning and admiring the orchid that my husband brought home for the other day, I decided to write this lens. Have you ever seen a flower that is so magical and beautiful as an orchid?

In the past, I have tried so hard to grow orchids. EVERYONE faded away and died. It actually broke my heart because they are one of the most unique beautiful flowers I have ever seen, but yet I could never keep them alive. I even explained this to my husband several times, but he told me he had faith in my green thumb and he knows I will be able to take care of it-so he ended up purchasing me two.

So I figured, if I have not had the best luck growing Orchids, perhaps there are others as well, so if I write a Squidoo Lens on them and do some research, perhaps many of us will benefit from it.

All of the photos in this lens are pictures I have taken. There is no editing or enhancements in any of the pictures, espcially the UpClose Orchid. I took these pictures at the Botanical Gardens here in Georgia (last month I believe). If you have a lens on growing flowers or orchids, please be sure to add it to the plexo below.

Photography helps us to build a better world. Through our photos we are able to share the beauty we see in life.

Lighting for Orchids

type=textThis is what the tag on my Orchid says:

Just Add Ice ORCHIDS

Simple as 1-2-3

1. Water with 3 ice cubes once a week.

2. Place in a bright, well lit location, avoid direct sunlight.

3. 65-85 F never below 55 degrees. Locate away from drafts.

Thats it, that is all it says!

I was doing some research online and found a site that says:

If the leaves are ong and slender the more strong lighting the orchid will need. If the leaves are short, softer wider leaves, the less light it will require.

So I suppose I should stick with what the tag says on mine. I wonder if "Just add ice" Orchids are a new breed??

I have managed to coax some blooms from a couple of orchids. I want beautiful blooms around the yard like the hotels in Hawaii. It is sad that it is too dry here. I would have to maintain a whole micro climate to keep them going.
    Lovely photos.
