Order Star Trek Costumes

Until I started looking, I did not know that so many costume were readily available. I guess I figured the Trekkies that go to conventions always made their own. While many apparently do, not everyone has the skill or time.

You can buy the official pattens, get the proper fabric, and sew away. While I do sew, I'd rather leave that much effort to those who are sticklers for every authentic detail. I just want to get down to the business of having fun!

We always knew Uhura was a strong woman, but in the movie we got to see her feistiness from the beginning. But she always looked good. In the new movie she looks as stunning as ever in her red dress.

I recently saw an interview with Nichelle Nichols - the original Lt. Nyota Uhura). She explained the meaning of her name. Uhuru is Swahili for 'freedom' - they made it a little easier to say by changing it to Uhura. Only later did they add a first name - Nyota meaning 'Star'. A beautiful, powerful name for a beautiful, powerful woman.

In the "Star Trek:The Next Generation" TV show, the uniforms were not only updated and a bit more form fitting, they also changed meaning of the colors. Red was now the color for command officers - those on the bridge (this includes command, control and communications officers ). Gold was now for 'operations' (engineering and security), and blue was still the color for the sciences division.
