Oregon's Diverse Fishing Adventure

When it comes to fishing, Oregon is a fisherman's dream come true, because Oregon has it all. From salmon and steelhead, to trout, bass amp; walleye, whether you're a novice fisherman or an seasoned angler, there's always something biting in the waters of Oregon.

During the summer, there are many fishing opportunities such as sturgeon fishing in the Columbia River, steelhead fishing in the Deschutes River, wade fishing for chinook and saltwater fishing for giant halibut. The choices are as diverse as the beauty Oregon is famous for.

Most people don't realize it, but some salmon are non migratory, which means year round salmon fishing opportunities in Oregon.

Oregon's waters are teeming with chinook. And the Columibia River hosts over one million returning salmon and steelhead each and every year. Add other rivers to the mix, such as Umpqua, John Day, Rogue as well as the Tillamook Bay, and you'll quickly see why Oregon truly has an exceptional fishing experience waiting for you.

Not only is Oregon a terrific place to fish, but it's affordable. No matter what your taste, Oregon offers the perfect fishing adventure for every angler.

What The Oregon Fishing Report Has To Say About Willamette River

The Willamette River is a tributary of the Columbia River, 187 miles (301 km) long,[4] in northwestern Oregon in the United States. Flowing northward between the Coastal Range and Cascade Range, the river and its tributaries form a basin called the Willamette Valley containing 70% of Oregon's population, including its largest city Portland, which sits along both sides of the river near its mouth on the Columbia. Its lush valley is fed by prolific rainfall on the western side of the Cascades, forming one of the most fertile agricultural regions of North America that was the destination for many if not most of the emigrants along the Oregon Trail. The river was an important transportation route throughout much of the early history of the state, furnishing a means of conveying the vast timber and agricultural resources of the state to the outside world.

Part of the river's floodplain (the Willamette Floodplain) was established as a National Natural Landmark in 1987; ten years later the river was named as one of ten national American Heritage Rivers.

The lower river flow rate varies considerably by season and due to weather. Warm winter rains, for example, cause extensive mountain snow melt which significantly raises the river level and flow rate.
