Jessie M. Honeyman Mem. State Park
On the southern reaches of the Hwy. 101 in Oregon a unique terrain emerges. The great sand dunes of Oregon & Jessie M. Honeyman Mem. State Park.
Along this stretch of the Oregon coast you will encounter new and contrasting terrain. From the towering dunes along the beach to crystal clear fresh water lakes inland. This area offers some of the most unique and beautiful ecology anyone can ask for.
Don't wait another second get out and strecth your legs, take a run or make a day hike out of it.
Oregon Dunes
You'll bring home more sand than the Sahara
You have now found the gate way to Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area & the Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park.
Although there is access to the dunes for off road vehicles, I prefer to experience this great landscape on foot. Trekking in nature I've always thought is a more sensible approach.
In these great dunes against the pacific exists a trove of natural history.
You might find deer, whales, fox, sea lions, or a randomly huge jellyfish. These critters continue to live as they have always among the beach pines and drift wood! Keep wildlife wild, don't feed or attempt to touch the animals.
The dunes and the Pacific ocean aren't they only natural sight to gaze upon. There are freshwater attractions as well.
If your staying at the Honeyman State Park You might try a short hike across 101 to Whoahink Lake. There you will be free to enjoy the cool crystal clear water. Some fishing or diving perhaps. None the less you will be sure to enjoy the breeze off of the lake and the shady pines!
