Organic Food-The Must-Know Benefits

The benefits of organic foods are just so many that we need only to scratch the surface to start finding them. As we dig deeper, we will only find more and more amazing benefits, some of which we might not even have thought of.

It is highly imperative for us to know the high benefits of organic foods, as we need to be sure that we are eating right to a healthier life.

Plant-Based

In a study published by The Organic Center in March 2008, scientists have proven that organic foods are more nutritious and far more better for our health. Results from research have shown:

  • Eight out of 11 nutrients studied have shown higher levels in organic plant-based foods (fruits, grains and vegetables), including significantly greater concentrations of polyphenols and antioxidants.
  • On average, organic plant-based foods deliver more essential nutrients per serving or calorie consumed (25% more nutrient dense) compared to the conventionally-grown foods.
  • Nutrients present in organic foods are "in a more biologically active form," according to Neal Davies, a professor at Washington State University (WSU) and a co-author of the center's report.

Animal-Based

As for animal-based organic foods, studies have found higher levels of CLA in milk from dairy cows on organic farms, particularly pasture-based operations.

CLA reduces the propensity to store fat (especially abdominal fat), inhibits tumor development, promotes sensitivity to insulin in cells, increases immune response against viral antigens, and modulates inflammatory processes. CLA may even delay or slow the onset of Type II Diabetes! CLA levels in organic milk are often found to be 30% or higher than in conventional milk.

A higher concentration of CLA has also been found in the meat of cows that have been raised on pasture and/or fed soybean, safflower or sunflower oil-based supplements.

Other Common Benefits

No chemicals are used in the growing process, or in the case of animals, the rearing process.

Organic food is much more rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber and retains the levels of nutrients for much longer.

Only natural fertilizers and herbicides are used in producing organic crops.

For farm animals, only organic feed from the natural environment is given to them, meaning that you can be assured when you eat organic meats or milk, you will be getting the all-natural, high quality nutrients and vitamins without the chemical effect of special formulated drugs which are often used to enhance meat growth in animals.

There are also other benefits to organic food which includes the exclusion of genetically modified organisms (GMO). GMO's to put it succinctly are foods which have had their genetic structure modified in some way or the other.

Organic foods are naturally high in anti-oxidants as they retain much more of the natural constituents and plant compounds, which are so good for our health.

Organic food just tastes so much better!

Consider This...

There are approximately 60 trillion cells that make up tissues, glands, organ, bones and skin in our body. Old cells are constantly dying while new ones are being created.

Study has shown that our body uses raw material from the food we eat to regenerate new tissues as replacement to the old ones that are constantly dying all year around. Our body can only use what we feed it; oxygen, water and organic vitamins from food as raw materials to produce new cells.

As with any construction, the finished product will only be as strong, as functional and as aesthetic as the materials used to build it!

That's why it is IMPERATIVE that we consume the best quality of food with the highest nutritional value and the highest amount of potential energy available, in order for us to build a healthy, good looking and long lasting body.

Getting It Is Easy

Now days, there's a lot of grocery stores that are providing readily available organic foods. However, not everything you see has to be certified organics. It is best for you to know the source of the food or how it's been produced.

Doing a little bit of research is best if you are looking for high quality natural food (that are chemical-, pesticide-, hormone- and antibiotic-free) that is less expencive than the certified counterpart. I do try to buy organic whenever possible, but the options locally for me are few and far between. With my cleaning products, I've gone all natural/organic, and I've noticed a huge difference from that. Great work!
