You read more and more about the benefits of eating organic food as opposed to GM food. While some studies say that there is no difference in the nutrient content of non organic and organic food. We all know this is not true.

If you look at some of the fundamental differences between the two types, common sense will be all you need to realise that there is a lot more benefit to be derived from eating non GM food as opposed to its inferior counterpart.

For a start, the issue of artificial fertilization now associated with today's conventional methods of producing crops, show that the food is grown with more water, this gives way to a quicker growth rate and an artificial appearance that is to good to be true. Just take a look at all the rows and rows of perfect vegetables in your local supermarket and you will know there is no way, veg can ever look so uniformly perfect. On the other hand, organic veg has what is known as more "dry matter" meaning that it is actually built up of more food substance and less water. These will go towards making up more of your daily allowance of nutrients.

Another plus side for consuming organic vegetables is the higher count of phytonutrients. These are life enhancing antioxidants that are created within the plant as a defence against harmful chemicals and pesticides during its growing faze. It goes without saying that a plant left to grow without pesticides and chemicals will have a lot more of its natural defences (pyhtonutrients) intact, these of course will be passed on to you as you eat them. Some of the more common phytonutrients are; lycopene (found in tomatoes), polyphenols (found in potatoes) and flavenols (found in apples).

Here are some interesting fact on organic food, these should really start to swing your opinion as to
why you should get into switching to organic rather that GM food.

For a start, organic food contains fewer or no pesticides. Compared to non organic food which can contain any of the 450 legally allowed pesticides used in modern farming methods. The pesticides that are used in organic food are of little or no harm. They simply break down leaving little or no residue. On the other hand, the pesticides used in non organic foods rank as some of the most harmful environmental cancer risks.

Another fact about organic food is that their nutrient levels are much higher; they have been shown to contain in particular, much higher levels of vitamin C, magnesium, iron and phosphorous. Adding to this, there levels of phytonutrients are greater as well. Phytonutrients are found to naturally occur in plants and help protect them from disease and pests.

Fruits and vegetables that are organic, contain fewer or no food additives. There is proof that food additives contribute to a wide range of disorders and illnesses. There are some additives that are governmentally permitted in organic foods, though this might sound a little scary, we are talking a fraction of the amount compared to non organic or GM food. An example of one such additive is nitrate, a preservative that has been linked to cancer in animals. It goes without saying, organic foods are the way to go and with so many more of them being readily available these days at only a fraction more price in most cases, it is a mystery why anyone would not want them in the first place.
