The Unexpected Benefits of Organic Fruits

We all heard that organic fruits and vegetables supposedly taste better and are safer for the environment. If you still need more motivation to start eating healthier, here are a few more benefits of organic fruits and organic living in general you may want to consider.

The Unexpected Benefits of Organic Fruits

Since childhood we have been told to eat our fruits and veggies, because they are good for us. Even if you stubbornly don't do it, you at least know (I hope) all the great benefits that fruits and vegetables provide.

Now, what if you were told that fruits and vegetables, which you eat to stay healthy, are packed with chemicals, which are actually dangerous to your health?

If you don't believe me, I suggest you do some research. Don't listen to FDA, because it is not in their interest to admit that food that they have been approving for so long is actually not safe. By the way, did you know that U.S. beef is banned in EU? If you want to know why, do your research. You may be surprised.

I don't want to sound too negative, so instead of concentrating on dangers of non-organic foods (which I hope you will research), I will list the benefits of organic fruits (and organic food in general), some of which might be new and unexpected to you.

1. Growing organic fruits is better for wildlife and the environment. Organic farming causes lower pollution from sprays, produces less carbon-dioxide and less dangerous wastes.

2. Organic fruits contain more nutrients than conventional. The famous proverb "an apple a day keeps a doctor away" should have been "an ORGANIC apple a day keeps a doctor away." Whoever said it first had no clue that people would think of putting chemicals in fruits to increase the profits.

3. Organic fruits have higher levels of vitamins and minerals. It is much better for you to eat an actual fruit than to take a supplement, because your body absorbs natural vitamins and minerals a lot better and a lot easier.

4. Two recent studies showed that men who eat organic food have a sperm count on average of between 99 and 127 million/ml (the average is 66 million/ml). You didn't see this one coming, huh?

5. Eating organic foods may help you be skinnier, because organic food regulations prohibit the use of hydrogenated fats, which are often responsible for the unwanted pounds.

6. Organic fruits and vegetables are a must when it comes to your child's diet. Exposure to chemicals through food lowers their immune system. According to some studies, American toddlers eating mostly organic have less than one sixth the pesticide residues in their urine compared to children eating conventional foods.

7. Organic fruits DO TASTE BETTER. Give them a try.

Organic fruits are usually not as appealing as their conventionally grown tasteless friends. However, flavor and health benefits outshine all visual imperfections, don't you think?
