I am an artist pulled, I guess, in two directions. Photography and Writing.

Photography is the the road I have wandered, or should that be wondered, down over the last few years, working with dancers and endeavouring to produce work to submit to galleries and exhibitions.

And writing...been a bit of a dry spell recently, but I love expressing ideas through words. I would love to be involved in writing screenplays for TV and this may well be my direction next year.

Now if I could only combine the two.....!

New to this lens thing, so just feeling my way at the moment

The different areas of 2rightfeet

Below are links and a brief description of the various sections of my website.
Dance Imagery
The original theme for 2rightfeet.com and the main reason for its launch in 2002. I am interested in hearing from companies, dancers and choreographers.
Art
My background is in art so I have always approached photography in this way.
This work is ongoing and created for submission for exhibitions and galleries.
Fashion & Models
A recent development on the site though one I had previously had experience within
during my days assisting in London studios.
Portraiture
Portraiture has always interested me and is, definately, an area I would like
to continue exploring. It is expressed in two ways.

1-The commercial aspect of casting/audition shots for actors and dancers.

2-The more expressive and abstract work which links into the art side of my work.
Design
An area which has not expanded as well as I would have hoped. I had the opportunity
to photograph the interior design products created by friends of mine and thought it
would be a good area to explore. I would still be very keen to expand this aspect of
photography.
Restoration and Repair
Again another area that came about through chance rather than design! My way of working
meant I learnt quite a bit about manipulating imagery and this lends itself to repairing
damaged photographs and other aspects of image enhancement.
2rightfeet blog
A relatively recent addition to the website, still finding its feet but, hopefully,
has huge potential as a feedback tool and a way of communicating with future clients.

Dance Imagery

an example of my work

For the last few years most of my work has involved dance photography. This has covered quite a wide area from shots that dancers' need for their portfolio through to limited edition imagery for submission to galleries and exhibitions.

I was looking at other lenses in the group and saw the one created by Elizabeth Stringer

Looking at her portfolio I read more about www.artwanted.com and decided to join and create a page...Lens networking in action! So many thanks to Elizabeth.

People I lost touch with

and wish I still knew

Looking back there are one or two people I knew and lost touch with. If you know any of them, I would love to hear from them.
  • Zoe Kariviotes : We met in Nottingham in 1995-96. She lived in Mansfield, had a baby and was one of the coolest people I knew.
  • Nadia...think her second name was Davirid, French from Nantes, knew her in London 2000-2001ish.
  • Nadia Hussain : Knew her in London in 1994. Kind of an odd time for me and we lost touch.
  • Anyone who was with the Greenwich Rams or Kent Rams American football team 1984-1989.
  • Anyone with Tarannau U.W.A American football team in 1996-1997.
  • Nadia Kiernon. Australian flight attendant based in Bahrain in 1994-1995. Yes, I met a lot of Nadia's and the truth is stranger than anyone could imagine!

About mnewell

A brief and whistle stop biog- Did well at school academically, did not do so well upon leaving school ; spent a few years in the wilderness somewhere between disillusionment and disenhancement.

The main event of this time was, probably, becoming involved in American football, becoming an assistant coach and a registered referee.

Did a foundation course which included printmaking, graphic design, fine art, art history, as well as photography.

From this I obtained a place on a BTEC photography course, but left after one year. A few reasons, but, mainly, it was a bad course.

I went to Ireland to photograph sites of historical interest...and a optician's business! Interiors, exteriors and company cars.

Returned to London for a period of self-employment as a freelance photographer supplemented by assisting in studios in London which was a steep and very beneficial learning curve.

Around this time I began fencing, specialising in sabre and this led to some broadsword re-enactment work, quarterstaff skills, archery, the whole Robin Hood thing really....but no green hats...or tights!

Also helped form a group which stayed in and investigated haunted buildings, some curious events occurred, quite an interesting time.

Went off to do a degree in photography at Nottingham Trent University, but dropped out again..this time after only three months :

Photography degree

Seemed not to be.

Particularly, for me...apparently.

Wanted a break from it to be honest and took a train to the end of the line and the beginning of a very happy period in my life studying in Aberystwyth. Started in the art department, ended in the film & TV department.

Did not want to return to London, had an interview with a mind, body, spirit publishers down on the Dorset border and began working as a researcher until they went into receivership. Things did not fall into place and illness pushed me back to London where I re-booted my photography career, working with dancers and making the transition to digital. Launched the website

www.2rightfeet.com in 2002. Lately, I have felt that I have taken my photography as far as it wants to go for the time being, so looking for fresh horizons.
