Orkney is not a place I have yet visited but you certainly present a powerful case for doing so. A very warm, though belated, welcome to the Destination Scotland group!

Five Senses showed our family of 4 plus my sister and her husband around for a week. It was incredible. The highlight of 3 weeks in the UK - and we plan to return. We could not have seen 1/3 of what we saw without Malcolm. It was not a "okay so look at this for 20 seconds" type event. Malcolm asked us all kinds of questions for weeks before we arrived. Once there, he learned more about us -- and surprised us with a stop off at a rare breed sheep farm, as well as a combination wool shop / bookstore, to satisfy all 6 of us. I would highly recomend Malcolm and FIve Senses to anyone. It is not costly when you realize how much you end up doing, seeing and expereincing.

    We shall be back.

And here are some of the problems you might encounter when in Orkney:

Cancelled ferry due to bad weather (rare but happens)
Disappointing food when eating out (often)
Too much wind for your liking (weather, not food related)
Uninspiring landscape of fields (mainly in bad weather) due to being farmland (pasture)
Lack of trees, mountains and Highland scenery
Too many people raving about it (get it in perspective!)
It takes a lot of time and / or money to get there
Transport around there takes ... time
Life back home can seem shallow and false, by comparison, and you might find you have to return
Lack of green vegetables and "healthy" foods
Being on an island can feel claustrophobic at times
Few colours - lots of green and grey
    Noise from drinkers at weekends
A lack of choices for walks and cycling
    Barbed wire and electric fences
Uninspiring, generic housing replacing the older houses, and no one seeming to care.

    :)
