Orla Kiely - the history behind the brand 

Orla Kiely was born in Dublin and studied textiles at that city's National College of Art and Design before doing a Masters in knitwear at Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. Harrods picked up on the young designer's promise in 1993 and her collection grew quickly from this early start.

She initially produced a range of hats for Harrods, but soon went on to expand her range to include bags and purses. Just over a year later The Orla Kiely partnership was formed, and her collection was received internationally.

With dedicated stores in London, Paris, Hong Kong and Japan, the Orla Kiely brand now commands a £100m turnover and has customers all over the world. It is a testament to Orla Kiely's design flair and simplicity that her influence has continued to sway the fashion world.
