Orleans was one of the few towns in America to be attacked during World War I. On July 21, 1918, German u-boats off the coast of Orleans shelled the town and sunk the tugboat Perth Amboy. The u-boat successfully fled afterwards.

- I grew up on Cape Cod during my summers! Parents still rent a place every year. We always stayed in Orleans (except a few times we stayed at a friens place in Chatham). I absolutely love it there. Thank you for this lens.
