Oster Classic 76

Here's my review of the Oster Classic 76 Hair Clippers, after I've put it through extensive use since I purchased it in August of 2008. Here's an account of its durability, usage and behavior from the perspective of someone who uses it three times a week!

Oster Classic 76 Professional Hair Clippers

Oster Classic 76 hair clippers are a commonly found pair of clippers in barber shops and hair salons across. If you're considering the Oster Classic 76, you're most likely a "buzz cut" veteran whose tired of using cheaper clippers and are willing to shell out $130 for something significantly better.

Most gravitate toward the Oster Classic 76 for its construction and selection of metallic blades that are compatible with it. The blades for the Classic 76 are also compatible with the Oster Star-teq. Here's a run-through of the clipper's features as well as the opinions I have about them, as I've been using this clipper since the summer of 2008.

Oster Classic 76 Features...And My Thoughts

A full review of the product

  • About its construction: This is no cheap piece of plastic clipper. The Classic 76 is quality construction, inside and out. Unlike other clippers, it's very easy to find internal parts, should you ever need them (which you won't). Over the course of using the Oster Classic 76 on a bi-weekly basis, I haven't had a single hiccup or issue with the unit. The only thing you do have to be wary of is dropping one of the blades - they are very fragile.
  • About the clipper blades: It's all about easy removal with the Oster Classic 76. Simply pull back your attached blade, lift and remove the blade. Then, slide your new blade over the guide, and snap it back toward the clipper. The mechanism that the Oster Classic 76 uses to hold the blade in place is extremely sturdy. The best part about it is that you never have to use a screwdriver to remove the blade, as you do with other hair clippers.
  • About clean-up: After you've used an Oster Classic 76, you'll notice how there's barely any hair clippings on the floor. Turn off the Classic 76 and simply brush the clipper blade teeth, and a neat line of shaved hair will fall into the sink. The Oster Classic 76 was designed to gather shaved hair toward the underside base of the blade, for easy clean-up.
  • About the brand name: Oster is the top brand in hair clippers, making it extremely easy to maintain in the long run. Your first clipper will be your last: you're paying a little more, and this most certainly is not a budget brand!
  • Ergonomics/grip: Unlike competing clipper brands, the Oster Classic 76 will never heat up and burn your hand or scalp with its excellent construction. A ridged clipper shaft makes it extremely easy to grip. In fact, it's probably the safest clipper to use on the market! I'd recommend that you do not clamp your hand around the exhaust slits on both sides of the clipper, as they continually force warm air out of the blade for aspiration. The clipper itself weighs about as much as a Maglite-brand flashlight of comparable size.
