Parents, especially those with young children need a reliable otoscope to check in ears and up the nose to see if there's blockages or inflammation. Doctors use them all the time.

The Best Otoscope we've found

Photo courtesy Amazon.comWe've been through several that looked promising, including some with mirrors and other add ons, but the Doctor Mom Pocket Otoscope with hard shell case has been the best we've found. Using an LED as the light source ensures a long life for the batteries, the stainless steel housing and slim design allows for easy access in the medicine cabinet or purse, and the case is an added bonus! Also features a manufacturer's lifetime warranty.

Otoscopes should be a part of everyone's First Aid Kit

First aid kits should include:
  • Thermometer (digital)
  • Otoscope
  • Aspirin (for headaches as well as for use in case of a heart attack)
  • Epi-pen (for adverse reactions to bee stings and other allergens)
  • Band Aids
  • cold pack
  • heat pack
  • What about you?

Do you have an item that you find so useful no one should be without it in their first aid kit? Thermometers are one of my essentials, and it's especially nice to have the kind that you can stick in the ear (Braun) or place on the forehead to get an almost instant reading (like the Fever-Bugz). What are some of yours?
