Monterey Bay Aquarium is "Wild About Otters"
NEW EXHIBIT
Ten feisty freshwater otters will captivate your heart and take you on a journey into their native African and Asian habitats where you'll encounter tropical freshwater fishes, reptiles and plants.
The new exhibit shares the stories behind our six African spotted-necked otters (including two young pups) and four Asian small-clawed otters through caretaker's journals, video and photographs. Wild About Otters is a multi-sensory adventure through five different galleries and an intriguing array of live exhibits and family-friendly interactive displays.
Behind the Scenes: Two Freshwater Otter Pups Born
Latest Update
We're thrilled to announce the birth of two female African spotted-necked otter pups, which were born on November 3 at an off-site aquarium facility. Staff caring for them say Kazana (Swahili for "to busy oneself") is more cautious and appears to think first before she acts, whereas Ajabu ("surprise") rushes in without fear, is very feisty and a handful for her mother, usually fighting nursing and naptime.Watch a video and find out more about the pups here.
