Organic Gardening

Green Heron taken by KatheeSewing and knitting are a common creative theme on "Our Eclectic Reality" blog. Home learning along side the kids definitely nurtures a few more excuses to pull out the sewing machine on cast on a few more stitches to start a scarf. Kathee has been known to create wonderful reusable Christmas bags for gift giving. She's also an amazing gardener, always learning and expanding on the vast knowledge she already posses about composting and organic gardening.

Kathee radiates her love of nature in her blog posts and in her photography, capturing moments that reminds us of the wonder and spontaneity of natures creatures that surround our daily lives.

Home Learning and Crafts

Christmas treasuresLee, another earthy womyn who's eclectic musings are part of "Our Eclectic Reality" blog! Lee is home schooling her youngest daughter, enjoys gardening and crafting. Lee's posts and photos of life unfolding are insightful, fun and inspire! Lee, Kathee and I enjoy enjoy the spontaneity and eclectic style that is represented in our blog, posting what's important in the moment or simply just something that has come to mind.

Collectively we have been homeschooling our children for more than 25 years. Our Eclectic Reality is about sharing activities, musings and ideas for and about our home learning experience. No matter what your style of home schooling even if you have little knowledge of what the homeschooling movement is, you'll find information and inspiration in our posts about our journeys. Our Eclectic Reality reflects similar and diverse experiences of unschooling, home learning, curriculum, socialization and more, that the three of us offer.

Healthy Living

Natural and organic when possible is a common theme in our blog posts. Making it real when ever possible can be a little challenging, but well worth the effort. Raising children is a wonderful, fulfilling and life altering adventure. Keeping it real, avoiding unnecessary toxins and chemicals in their environment is a challenge. Not only is healthy, clean eating eating important to the global development of a child, but where they live and play is just as important. Part of our blog touches on how we manage or fail to stay on top of it.

Reducing the amount of plastic in our lives is difficult, but still manageable. Being aware of how much plastic surrounds our children can help keep it in check. When purchasing toys, incorporating wood and natural fibres, fabric etc.. when possible is a good strategy, another blog topic that comes up from time to time.

Homesteading

ChanteclersOur Eclectic Reality offers some insight into homesteading, how we incorporate our eclectic ways, vintage or modern. Frugal living is something I enjoy exploring, challenging myself and my family to do more with less, not just for financial reasons, but also for environmental reasons. Blogging about our experience is a way to connect with each other and with others who are doing the same or contemplating alternative living.

Kathee and I are raising chickens, the three of us are avid gardeners, focusing on growing food organically. Preserving and storing food is something I enjoy doing, learning more about and writing about. My focus is encouraging my children to at least acquire some skills in food preservation and preparation through gardening and hanging out in the kitchen most of the day. I have discovered teens who are eager to eat will hang over my shoulder giving me lots of opportunities to talk food and provide spontaneous teaching and learning moments.
