Outdoor Hammocks
Although any hammock can be used outdoors, they are not all suitable to be left out in poor weather conditions. Make sure you buy a hammock that is tough enough to withstand the elements. There are two things in particular that you should be concerned about.
Contents at a Glance
Sun Damage
UV rays from the sun will fade colors and age fabrics, but some will be more affected than others. Cotton is particularly susceptible to fading, but polyester is much more fade resistant and tends to have a much longer lifespan.
Mold, Mildew and Rot
This can quickly become a problem if your hammock becomes wet. Natural fibers like cotton are very prone to decay. Man-made fibers such as polyester and nylon do not tend to rot, but mold can still grow on the fabric and should be wiped off immediately.
Summary
Whether you are buying a rope or fabric hammock, or even a hammock chair, for outdoor use artificial materials like nylon and polyester will last much longer than cotton. You also need to make sure your stand and accessories are well protected from the elements.
