Beautify with Nature

If you're having an outdoor wedding, you've got hundreds of options for decorations right at your disposal. Use the backdrop that nature provides as your setting. Your focal point can be a bridge in the distance, a fountain, an archway or even a pretty tree. If you're choosing a destination where you will set up a tent, the sky is literally the limit. Use what is around you as part of your ready-made décor.

Start With Greenery

Go With a Theme

Image courtesy of [lauren nelson] on FlickrYou can start with the greenery. Choose a theme that incorporates greens and you'll have an easy time of the decorations.

Bring in a lightweight metal arch if there isn't one available and wrap silk flowers around it. Lovely white flowers with lots of greenery are traditional wedding staples. By using silk flowers, they will withstand more weather situations than real flowers might.

But if you are less traditional, go with red roses, or any flower you love. The arch will look darling and be a great place for you to hold the ceremony.

Work with a florist to make the best use of your flowers. Incorporate all kinds of colors, shapes and sizes.

Dress It Up With Flowers

Handpicked; Real or Fake

Image by TheLawleys on FlickrKeep things close to nature. Decorate folding chairs with bouquets of freshly picked flowers. No, you don't have to go out the morning of your wedding and pick bunches of flowers. You can use silk, or have the florist make up small bunches of wild looking flowers. A cute idea is to use recycled tin cans without the labels. Tie a beautiful silk or velvet ribbon around them and tie them to the backs of chairs. You might want to do every second chair so it doesn't look overdone.

Go With Lanterns

Give it a Glow

Image courtesy of peapodsquadmom on FlickrMini lantern wedding favors make a great addition to an outdoor wedding. They look festive hanging from a tent even in bright daylight.

Plus when the sun goes down and the dancing begins, you've got lighting that looks like you're dancing under even more stars.

Use flameless tea candles to power your lanterns so there's no danger of fire. You'll love the glow they give off and it will really create a nice outdoor ambiance for your whole night.

Umbrellas

For Shade and Protection

If you're hosting an intimate outdoor wedding, bring in market umbrellas to cover and shade the tables. You can then intertwine flowers and branches underneath your just married wedding umbrellas so that when guests look up, there is a magical garden above them.

Use faux branches and twine from the craft store so you don't have to try to lug branches in from the woods. They'll stay put easier, too. Work in some hanging lanterns or hanging jars with flameless tea light candles in them for a charm and glow.

Red Carpet Diva

Flower Petal Aisle

Image by brianna.lehman on Creative CommonsIf you've wanted to be a red carpet diva, now's your chance. Have the path you will walk down to the ceremony lined with red rose petals.

Don't just do a few. Throw down an entire carpet of red all done in flower petals. It will look so gorgeous even when no one is standing on it.

Guests can marvel at how festive and dramatic it looks while they're waiting for you to come down the aisle.

Mother Nature

Glamorizing Glamorous

Image by Wedding Favors UnlimitedTopiaries are another way to add to the magic of an outdoor wedding, along with summer wedding favors. Have potted topiaries cut and shaped by a florist in grand sculptural style, or bring in faux topiaries in ball shapes for the table centerpieces.

Bring in anything that has a woodsy or natural appeal, such as birdcages wrapped in flowers or wreaths with floral or faux bird accents. The more you use nature's wholesome beauty, the more gorgeous your outdoor wedding will be.
