What Kind of Outdoor Christmas Decorations Will You Use?
Everyone but a true Scrooge loves outdoor Christmas decorations. Strings of lights, nativities, Santa waving from the porch, inflatable snow globes with snow swirling all around. There are so many ways to creatively decorate your outside for Christmas. How do you plan to decorate yours?
If you live in an apartment, or a home with a small yard, position your Christmas tree in a window that can be seen from the street. If you have a flower box, or some flowerpots on your porch or balcony, why not decorate them with greens, sparkling garlands, and lights?
If you have a yard, consider using inflatable Christmas decorations, which have become quite popular lately. Or you could go a more traditional route and string lights in your trees and shrubs. If you string multi-colored lights, you get with a playful Candy land effect.
If you use one color, the effect is subdued, but elegant. Or, try hanging durable, yet shiny and colorful balls from your trees, even if they aren't evergreens. How about a lovely outdoor nativity scene? These meaningful decorations always look great on a lawn, especially with lights trained on them at night.
No matter what you choose, outdoor decorations add a wonderful dimension to your Christmas experience.

Inflatable Outdoor Christmas Decorations
One of the funniest, newest ways to really light up your yard at Christmas is with inflatable Christmas Decorations. These larger than life decorations are made of lightweight material that can be inflated with a simple blower.
Among the many designs you can find for your outdoor display are nativities, snow globes (complete with blowing snow), snowmen, Santa Claus, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer just to name a few.
These inflatable outdoor Christmas decorations are inexpensive, easy to set up and store and can be purchased just about anywhere during the holiday season. Many of them light up too, which makes them especially fun and easy - you don't need to set up lighting around them to make them visible at night.
Some people use inflatables exclusively for their outdoor Christmas displays, making entire scenes. Whether you use one inflatable, or several in your yard, you'll love them, and so will the happy people who view them during the holidays.

The Evolution of the Outdoor Christmas Decoration
Back then outdoor trees were decorated with those lights with the great big bulbs (they are coming back into vogue!), and there was always the one dimensional Santa standing next to his sleigh waving.
Sometimes you would see a nativity crafted from wood or cardboard. And electric candles in the windows. The displays were warm and wonderful. Nowadays, we still drive around to see the great decorations, but man, have things changed!

Some displays play cheerful holiday music, and it's not uncommon to see glittering stars hanging from the highest treetop. Once in a while, we still see what we would call and old-fashioned display.
A wooden Santa and sleigh standing in the snow greeting us with a big smile and the words Merry Christmas painted on the sleigh. Both the old way and the new way bring us cheer and a sense of fun. We still enjoy seeing a wide variety of outdoor Christmas decorations.

A Christmas decoration is any of several types of decorations used at Christmastime. The traditional colours of Christmas are pine green (evergreen), snow white, and heart red. Blue and white are often used to represent winter, or sometimes Hanukkah, which occurs around the same time. Gold and silver are also very common, as are just about any other metallic colour. Typical icons of the holiday include Santa Claus, Jesus, the star of Bethlehem, and the Christian cross. Typical winter icons include snowflakes, snowmen, icicles, and even penguins and polar bear.

In many countries there are many different types of decorations used depending on the traditions and available resources.
The Christmas tree is often explained as a Christianization of pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the winter solstice, which included the use of evergreen boughs, and an adaptation of pagan tree worship. The English language phrase "Christmas tree" is first recorded in 1835Harper, Douglas, Christ, Online Etymology Dictionary, 2001. and represents an importation from the German language. The modern Christmas tree tradition is believed to have begun in Germany in the 18th centuryvan Renterghem, Tony. When Santa was a shaman. St. Paul: Llewellyn Publications, 1995. ISBN 1-56718-765-X though many argue that Martin Luther began the tradition in the 16th century. From Germany the custom was introduced to England, first via Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, and then more successfully by Prince Albert during the early reign of Queen Victoria. The influential 1840's image of the Queen's decorated evergreen was republished in the U.S, and as the first widely circulated picture of a decorated Christmas tree in America, the custom there spread.Shoemaker, Alfred Lewis. (1959) Christmas in Pennsylvania: a folk-cultural study. Edition 40. p.52,53.
