Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks Located In The Chicago Area

Millennium Park

Located at Millennium Park right in front of Park Grill (Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison Streets) is the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink. Skating at Millennium is free, though there is a charge for skate rental. The ice surface is natural and chilled by refrigeration system that allows for early and late skating seasons. Hockey or passing the puck is not permitted at this rink. This rink carries daytime and evening hours and boasts wonderful views of city skyline and the park. Aside from the "bean", the McCormick Tribune ice rink at Millennium Park stands out as one of the crown jewels of the East loop. The Rink at Wrigley

Located at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field (1060 W. Addison) is another family fun ice rink in Chicago. There is an admission to skate at Wrigley of ten bucks, though seasonal passes are sold for approximately $60. Steeper prices prevail at Wrigley compared to the other Chicago Park District rinks; though one must remember it is Wrigley and afterwards you can say you skated the friendly confines. Daley Bicentennial Plaza

Rink is located in Grant Park at 337 East Randolph Street. Admission to this rink is free and rental skates are available for $7.00. The rink is open in the afternoons through evening. Rosemont

The Park at Rosemont is located on Four Seasons Plaza off Balmoral. Ice skating is free with option to rent skates if you do not have your own. The rink is open seven days a week which includes evening hours. This rink is open through mid March and parking is free upon validation. Come out to the Park at Rosemont to skate to seasonal background music. Concessions and a warming house are also available on site. Hockey is not permitted. Roselle

The skating rink of Roselle's Town Center is located on the corner of Main and Prospect Streets. The skating rink consists of synthetic membrane that does not require freezing. Just bring the sharpened skates and dress in some warm clothes. The rink is open daily from November 26th through the end of February. For more information, please visit www.roselle.il.us

Vernon Hills

Come out to Vernon Hills to skate at Century Park North located at 1001 Lakeview Parkway. Admission to rink is free with skate rentals available. Skate rink surface is natural ice maintained over park's basketball court. Century Park rink also features warming house and concessions are available. Naperville

A straight shot west of the city about forty five minutes one can find the multiple rinks located at Centennial Park in Naperville. Centennial Park rinks are located in the downtown Naperville area at 500 West Jackson. Skating is free and open daily. You will need to bring your own skates as none are available to rent. These natural ice rinks include two hockey rinks in addition to an area available for open skate. Elmhurst

This oldie but goodie YMCA Ice rink is located in downtown Elmhurst at 211 W 1st Street. This is one of the very few YMCA establishments in Illinois to host their own ice rink (hockey boards included). This natural ice surface rink is open from mid November through Mid March. There is an admission charged for open skate. Skates are available for rent. This rink is reserved for skating and hockey events throughout the season, so it is recommended to contact the YMCA Ice Rink for public skate hours and rat hockey times. ORLAND PARK

Venture out to Centennial Park in the south suburb of Orland Park for some fun winter skating. Centennial Park is located at 15600 West Avenue in Orland. There is no admission for skating and rentals are available for those that do not have skates. The natural ice rink is for open skating only (no hockey allowed). FRANKFORT

The Main Park Ice Rink located at 200 S. Locust features two ice rinks of which one is reserved to open skating and the other for hockey. Skating is free, though the rinks can be reserved at late evening hours for your own private group outing. Main Park Ice Rink in Frankfort also provides a warming shelter and concessions.
