How To Solve Outlook Not Sending Email Problem

Ranked #3,492 in Computers & Electronics, #63,447 overall

There is nothing wrong with your Outlook

When you are at home or in your office, your Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express applications work flawlessly. Even though, anytime you go on a business trip, you try sending your email from that hotel room without success. You may think that is all Microsoft's fault (well... not this time!). Anyway, if you cannot send emails with Outlook, it can be solved.

SMTP and the source of the Problem

smtp problemSMTP (or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the protocol used by email servers to send emails across the Internet. Until 1990s, anyone could send an email using any SMTP server, which resulted in the well know junk email or spamming problem. Internet Service Providers had to make a change to fight spamming, and one solution to verify that the person that is sending the email is the real owner, and not just a spammer, was to ensure that this person was connecting from an authorized network location (or connecting from the same ISP network).

Of course I am not... I am traveling!

So you are on that business trip, where you are connecting from a different ISP. And you get one of these errors:
  • The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server
  • The rejected e-mail address was '<user@somedomain.com>'. Subject: '', Account: '', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 <user@somedomain.com>... Relaying Denied', Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79.
  • The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server
  • The rejected e-mail address was ''. Subject '', Account: '', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79.
