Learn to Crawl Before You Enter the Race

SEO (search engine optimization ) is not a walk in the park, it will take a lot of effort to get a page rank (PR). Even a pr of 3 consumes almost all of your brain cells, frustration at some point especially when your site or blog hit low on visits. I've been there and I know how hard for bloggers and site developers to optimize their sites. There is a lot more to SEO than just setting up an account on blog hosting sites, dropping your website into cyberspace, and sitting back as the cash rolls in.

So for those who are new in the SEO Race I hope this lens would help your site be on track.

Site Submission Power

When submitting to any directory, be sure to keep your reviewer in mind and treat your submission with kid gloves. Always read the submission guidelines before submitting, and follow them closely. As with everything in life, being polite and following the rules will get you far. Being rude and arrogant will most likely result in unfavorable alteration of your description -- or a completely ignored submission. Reviewers can change the content of submissions at will, so think about your Web site as objectively as possible and prepare accordingly.

Choosing the best category must be done judiciously. One good method involves doing a search using the most relevant keyword phrases for your site, and noting which categories pop up. Look for the most appropriate category, analyzing your site as an outside observer would. Choose the category your site truly belongs in, not the one where you'd prefer to see it.

Choose subcategories over top-level categories. If you submit to a top-level category even though appropriate subcategories are available, there's a good chance your submission will be denied. Similarly, if your site is local in nature, be sure to submit it to the appropriate geographic region.

Once you've decided upon the most appropriate category, find and click the "add a site" (or submit URL) link. Now you're ready to begin the submission process.

Article Submission

Why write and distribute articles in the first place? Free advertising and promotion. I submitted several articles to a handful (under five) of article directories. Several days later, after Google had done a recent crawl, I did a number of phrase searches on the web. If you enclose your search phrase in quotes, Google will search for that specific phrase. I searched for some of the article titles I had posted, and my own name (admittedly, this is only useful if you have a rare name that doesn't bring up pages of search results for other people of the same name). I found the articles I had published showing up on several websites. What made this even better was that a number of the places where I found the articles weren't places I had submitted them to. Other people had taken my articles and published them on their own websites. So the benefit is, lots of non-reciprocal links pointing to your website, that frequently you didn't have to do anything beyond initially publishing the article to get. Free traffic, advertising and promotion for a few minutes work.

Effective Free Press Release Distribution in 5 Easy Steps

An article from NakedPR.com

Avangate Press Release Websites - This is Avangate Top 50 press release submission list, most trustful sites where you can publish a press release, most of them free of charge. These list is ordered by Google PageRank and the links lead to "Add/Submit a Press Release" or "Register" page.

  1. Choose one or two free press release distribution sites (any more than 3-5 is just a waste of your time, assuming it's worth anything). Choose based on which ones will get the release added to news engines. Just because some bigger distribution sites (who will remain nameless) charge an arm and a leg for this service, not all do. For example, PR.com's free option will pretty much always get your release picked up in Google News (I've never had it fail yet). Now you're available via search%u2026 yippie!

  2. Send it to the Associated Press. It never hurts to try, and if they deem your release newsworthy enough to pick up, you just might get some decent "real" media coverage out of it. Just email or fax the release to the appropriate editor, writer, or regional bureau depending on your location and news.

  3. Send it to your local newspaper or other media with a local spin on it. It won't take more than a few minutes for you to add a local spin to the intro and / or headline of the press release. Send it to the most relevant journalist or editor at your local paper. Smaller papers especially eat that stuff up when a local is doing anything remotely newsworthy. Try to build a relationship with the editor or writer whenever possible while you're at it.

  4. Send it directly to niche or industry outlets. If you know of the top blogs, magazines, or websites in your niche, see if they have press release submission guidelines, and submit it directly to them. Don't just assume they'll find you through Google news or a press release distribution site. Work on the bigger ones first, and submit to as many as you have time for. If you get bigger pickups, they'll often lead to smaller niche blogs and such copycatting the story anyway. Again, try to build relationships if you can.

  5. Add your press releases to your own website or blog. Why is this so often ignored or neglected? Some clients complain when I suggest it, saying "well, I don't want duplicate content on my site." Well, if you give a damn about promoting your site, get the f*ing releases up there and quit whining about duplicate content! Who the hell cares about duplicate content? Maybe it's just me, but I thought the purpose
